The real safety is the trigger pull being higher and the fact that the trigger pull is longer. I carry behind the hip with a cocked and lock 1911 which is single action only, with a lighter trigger with <3/16ths of an inch of trigger pull closer to 1/8th of an inch.

Also cocked and locked means the safety is on and the hammer is back implying a single action, glocks do not have a manual safety so they cannot be carry cocked and locked.

Can somebody explain American gun culture to me? I get that it is seen as a precious right due to the, er, rebellion and the constitution and all that, but what is the fascination with the guns themselves?

Guns are just tools. I don't see associations and open events and tv shows for hammers, do you? A hammer hammers a nail down. A gun shoots a target. A gun in this context is the hammer and the target is the nail. What else is there to it?

The obsession with the guns, obsessing over the means and not the ends seems to indicate a very severe paranoia about the idea that somebody is always coming for you.

To put it simply, guns are not only powerful tools for violence. They are also a lot of fun. We have competitions over here where it is fun to go and shoot competitively or just as an amateur.

For instance my favorite is sporting clays, it is essentially golf with a shotgun. People go out to a pre-set up course and shoot a different lineup at each station, many shots are two clays flying at the same time. Like golf people sometimes have a cart and some walk.

There's a lot to do with guns aside from using them to defend yourself, and a lot of it is quite fun.
