A friend of mine once talked to a forest guard in the Astúrias who said "I don't get how you have so many forest fires over there in Portugal. We also have huge forests and high temperatures and it's so rare to have a fire! Even when it does happen, it's quickly controlled". When he told him that 80 to 90% of our flora in some areas is just fucking eucalyptus and pine trees he just replied "oh".

Add to that the fact you have air force people with private helis and planes fighting fires as a part time job and charging protection money. And 90% of the protected areas are also private property - if a single family lives there, it gets thrown out. But if its the wood industry, "ah, it's fine".

By all means, keep doing the same shit every year. I see northeners won't stop until their entire landscape is ash or eucalyptus.
