My aunt was on the Fitzgerald about 10 years ago. My uncle also crashed a navy ship into the Coronado Bridge in 1970. My guess is that it was a drunk sailor navigating the ship. At least, that was the case when my uncle crashed the ship. Sailors love drinking.
