Why have so few professional sports players come out as gay?

Gay men tend to not be proficient in sport.

But, I'm glad you asked, because I have a theory:
There is persistant and traditional homoerotic locker room culture: the tights, the ass slapping, the hazing, etc.
If there is a known gay in the locker room, that homoeroticsm becomes VERY heavy and real because the gay makes them sensitive towards anything gay so now they don't feel comfortable engaging in the regular homoerotic locker room culture because they're on edge.
This causes tension. Tension destroys teams. The gay players know this, so they don't come out of the closet because they wanna win just as bad as the other guys.
Am I on to something?
