This may be the deadliest forest fire in Portugal's modern history. In 1966, 26 people died in the Serra de Sintra fire near Lisbon.

Forest fires are scary, because they are so fast. People get trapped sometimes.
It's sad, especially because Leiria is a very beautiful and scenic part of Europe.
Our Goan Indian origin Prime-Minister wanted in 2015 the Syrian refugees to clean up the our forests .
Fuck. Strong winds and extremely dry vegetation made the fire spread very fast and caught these people by surprise, nothing anyone could do.
I visited Portugal briefly back in January and really enjoyed my stay. Remember riding a train through the Algarve and how dry the countryside looked. I bet fire just rips through that terrain like dry tinder. Best wishes from burgerstan
