They've already destroyed the Malls. Now they are coming after Wal-Mart and Kroger.

If you think you're job in retail is safe, think again.
>>
What's Kroger? Who cares about whole foods, I've never seen one before.
>>
>>130346952
You are an idiot.
This was a HUGE and publicized problem with Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart got out Jewed...
The USA should have clamped down on it when Wally world was destroying local businesses and they didn't.

So it opened the flood gate and now this is completely legal if Walt-marts monopoly is.
>>

Kroger is a Midwest supplier, like Dillon's.

If you don't know of them you are a coast cuck stop using the confederate flag.

good

retail should go away

Before it was farms, and then mills, and then textile factories. This is just another job segment disappearing because its intended output can be done a better way. Many humans achieve higher levels of output than attend to a register and point people towards a restroom.

This sounds more like a golf course acquisition for the sake of vanity than a super market power play.

Hunting Kroger and especially Walmart with a Whole Foods is like trying to sell deer meat that you shot with a punt gun.

If Amazon turns Whole Foods into a bargain basement chain they probably have a chance though. Walmart is still doing the general store model and has the "come get it today" advantage. There is a walmart about 2 miles from my house. Why am I going to order groceries (yes you can do this) when I can just go get them and be back in under an hour?

Krogers may have a harder go of it because they are trying to be fancy (direct competition with Whole Foods) but are still smart enough to have some discount sutff in the store too. This should be a fun story to watch in the next 5 years or so. If Amazon makes WF go cheaper, they just might create a big market.

Why would I go to a brick and mortar store when I can get the same thing online for less money? Expertise? Most retail monkeys know next to nothing about their products, I can get more from amazon usually.

The only reasons to not buy online are because you need it right now, you need to try it on(clothing), or it's a perishable food item that you want to pick out yourself.

Retail is becoming obsolete.

Whole Foods is for rich people, that is true. Mostly coz all of their products are 'organic' and locally sourced. You don't see kellog cereal brands on their shelves, that much I can say... Pretty obscure stuff but healthier, and made with less ingredients

Why are we letting this monopoly silently destroy our local economies?

Back in the day we would be able to drive down the street and buy everything we could possibly need from a local small business and get things in less than 20 min. Now Amazon has replaced the small business owner's ability to generate wealth, with a $12/hr warehouse slave. Or the owner's can bend over to Amazon's pyramid-like scheme, just to get data raped and replaced by Amazon's in house product. Now we wait 2-7 days for cheaper crap-products. That is, until they launch the drones which will just put us back in the same place as before, waiting 20 min for a product to arrive. People are literally buying clothes and shoes that don't fit, spending weeks sending exchanging them online when they could have just went to a store and find the perfect fit in just 30 min or less. Less reasons to go outside, no consumer culture(malls), no ability to generate wealth. Just more solitude and endless consumption at our own detriment.
>>
>>130348918

Trump on (((Bezos)))-
"He thinks I'll go after him for antitrust," Trump said at the time. "Because he's got a huge antitrust problem because he's controlling so much, Amazon is controlling so much of what they are doing.

"He's using the Washington Post, which is peanuts, he's using that for political purposes to save Amazon in terms of taxes and in terms of antitrust."

Trump’s campaign later reiterated this narrative in a statement claiming that the Post was being used as political leverage so Amazon doesn’t “get sued for monopolistic tendencies that have led to the destruction of department stores and the retail industry.”

>no one can afford whole foods anyway except for boomer yuppie faggots

This.

Food from there costs at least 2x what it ought to. The markup is insane which is why adding on some minor delivery cost as a percentage would make it economically feasible to do delivery.

Also what the hell is the OP talking about malls being ruined? Malls still do fantastically well since most people want to try on clothes before they buy them or just see what the hell something looks like in person. I know in my city there's at least four malls that all do fantastically well due to this.

What Amazon seems to be doing is just making more use of the huge number of people that are having trouble getting regular jobs and thus are willing to act as delivery drivers for a whole range of products.

I looked up what the pay looks to be and it seems to be about $18/hr without tips and so probably a bit more when doing Amazon Prime which does tips.

There's enough people desperate for work that stuff like this becomes viable for a business to take advantage of.
>>
>>130350274
I also did that growing up. But I lived in a small town. Also while the butcher and baker and candlestick maker(he's also a florist) are still open, the independent grocery was forced to shut down because it couldn't complete with the prices from the big Co-Op that moved in. There's also a fucking Subway that moved in like 3 years ago somehow. Nobody eats there though, I don't know how they say open. Everyone just eats at one of the 3 chinamen places or the ice cream parlor/burger place.

Fucking big Co-Op
>>
>>130350937
Well to be honest they are lobbying hard to use automated drones. Problem is that if they aim the lowest of the low at first their drones will get robbed by shitty people.

This is why regulation and law enforment is key to make automated deliveries work. People afraid of stealing it and actually having a landing place in their house.

Amazon is literally what capitalism is all about. Monopolies aren't something that would be not allowed in unregulated capitalism. This would be happening on a much bigger scale in a true capitalistic country.

Also,
>all the people complaining about the death of mom and pop stores
Fuck off. They are dying because they aren't selling as low. I understand they can't afford it, and they need to understand people aren't willing to spend more money just to keep around a relic of the past. Big box stores are better for consumers and they are staying. Get used to it. If you can't run a successful business, you only have yourself to blame, no Walmart and Amazon.
>>130352911
Probably because Amazon has been trying to get more into delivering groceries, even within the hour in certain areas. I imagine they will use the stores to as locations to ship food from. They will probably make a lot more money than the stores were previously making if they start shipping it to your door.

Google street view almost any small town in the US. Look at their main street and see nothing but boarded up windows and derelict homes.
It wasn't like this 30 years ago. Small town America was still alive and well. People owned farms and businesses in those communities. Once the farmers got jewed out of their land, then the businesses started going, too. Then Walmart came in and decimated what was left of Main Street. Then the illegals came in and took all the remaining jobs in rural areas, not just in the fields but in the processing plants and other factories. Now it's refugees to replace them, and the government is paying for somalis to have your grandparent's land and giving them grants to open african stores in the middle of nowhere. Excuse me. Hello there.

Lets talk about the 99% communist logic. You rage that only a few basically own the wealth and the rest and dort poor right?

What are you complaining? That you cant live in a 700000 acre house? Those corporations are big because they gain market % by delivering cheap shit.

Believe you are good being the low 99% of big free market society like the US than the low of a less free market society like China.

You are acting like a spoiled bitch. There is absolute nothing wrong to have a super rich elite if they are giving the other 99% their best prices and business models that exist in the world
>>

I don't know about the rest of the US, but I know they have their own delivery trucks here in PA. It's probably to expensive to buy either of UPS or FedEx. They aren't the cheapest in anything. Almost 100% of the time you can look up the third party seller that has the best price and find it for even less on their site.

It's literally only good for getting the model number of something then searching google for the model number and finding it for less.

Yet somehow they've got rubes a plenty buying everything from there because they're too ignorant to find it cheaper.

What's the value of Amazon over its competition?

Welp, you're confirmed for being either an idiot or a scheming Jew. There is no such thing as "unregulated capitalism", and monopolies are well recognized threats to competition and the free market.

Protip: capitalism seeks optimum resource allocation for society through limited protection of private property rights. It does not hold private property rights as some kind of absolute good all off their own like so many FREE-DUM cuckservatives. Read what the founders and early courts had to say about copyrights and patents. The system exists to serve society. When and where it results in a situation that harms society, private property "rights" can be overridden.

This is bad how?

Humans are simply becoming more efficient. Instead of going to the store to buy stuff, you press a button on your computer and it gets delivered to your house.

Someday soon this will work with groceries, and it will be fast. You order your groceries online and they're sent right to your house in under an hour.

The FAA 'shooting down' (no pun intended) Amazon's attempt at drone delivery is a big setback for humanity. Thousands of drones flying non-stop, delivering items to your doorstep just 10 minutes after you buy them was the next step for humanity.

Eventually new houses will be equipped by default with "drone pads" on the roof for these drones to land on.

>>130355488
Welp, you're confirmed for being either an idiot or a scheming commie.
There is no such thing as regulated capitalism, the two contradict each other. We aren't proper capitalism, we are a mixed market economy.

Monopolies aren't a threat to capitalism, they are a part of it. The government shouldn't be getting involved telling companies who they are allowed to sell themselves to. If a company wants to sell their company to another, they should absolutely be allowed to. Not allowing it to happen is taking their rights away and it's anti-freedom. Capitalism is cutthroat, if you can't survive in the market and stop a monopoly from happening, it's your fault and yours alone. You can easily bust up monopolies by giving the people what they want, if you fail at that, oh fucking well. You shouldn't get to run to daddy and demand the big bad companies be broken up to give you a better chance. Now fuck off to China, commie scum.
>>130355561
More expensive food doesn't equal better either. It just means that they can't afford to sell it for cheaper. Walmart is obviously not the top quality, but they aren't the worse either. They can just afford to sell it for a bit cheaper.

In the late 1800's early 1900's, everyone was against trusts, because the trusts owned vast railroad networks.
These railroad networks would ship goods into towns and undercut local producers, driving them out of business.
The gut reaction is to be against free trade, but the result, lower prices for goods, far outweighs the disruption of local industry.

The only real problem with the search function (and this applies to basically every retailer) is that there is no exclusion functionality.

And it's exactly why they are starting to lose now.

>I'm not ordering food from fucking amazon.

i'd order canned/frozen/boxed stuff. i could never order fresh because i'm so fucking picky about fruit/vegetables/meat. i used to be a meat cutter, so i will go through the entire counter to find what looks best to me.

>>
>>130346952
amazon is about to be bankrupt, this is their last ditch effort in trying to somehow bring in a cash cow, but Whole Foods is a sinking ship themselves

All natural monopolies are fractal offspring of the monopoly on authority we grant to the state via mob rule (AKA "democracy"). Modern nation states are quite literally giant cults. There absolutely no justification for the redistribution of wealth, intellectual property, or any other violation of physical property rights.

They are called King Soopers in Colirado. In name and logo only. Even their generic brands/floor layout are Kroger.

Carolina here, got Kroger and Harris Teeter. I think Harris Teeter is the more upscale version (it definitely is)

Reminder that this is a walmart shill.
Walmart is the ones that destroyed malls and brick and mortor stores, aswell as american jobs by selling only imported chinese shit. Amazon is the justice they deserve.

I love Whole Foods, it's the only high end grocery store in Toronto. I hope they don't reduce the quality.

Kroger has almost 2500 stores nationally. They run Smith's in Utah and Dillon's in Kansas as subsidiaries

this is to implement that future grocery store video teaser thing they released a few months back. The idea is like have an grocery store integrated with Amazon prime or something. Yeah, they're going to crush everything if they can make Whole Foods sell more than $20 apples and organic tampons. Otherwise, Wal-Mart will very much continue to exist.

>Walmart in Canada is sourced from local farmers. They don't ship tomatoes from China.
of course why would they need to all your farmers are chinese

Yes, I can't wait until I can order a new BMW from Amazon and get a BYD instead.

>They've already destroyed the Malls. Now they are coming after Wal-Mart and Kroger.

It's the future, faggot. Physical stores will be a relic of the past within a decade or two. We'll do all our shopping by our phones and have it delivered within minutes by drones. What is bad about this?
