Basically what I learned is /everything/ we are taught about language is a LIE.

I think there's a simpler way to summarize this phenomenon.

"You" language, especially directed to specific individuals, automatically puts the mind in a defensive position. Therefore any criticism or attempts to belittle or demean someone will be less effective because the mind has its' "shield" up from the beginning, and as a result less likely to accept/dwell on what is said.

On the other hand, "I" language, is more emphatic, and the point the OP I think is making is, is more likely to be subconsciously internalized by the receiver, or at the very least, subconsciously attempts to empathize with the speaker by putting themselves in that person's shoes.
