It was clear cut, and the jury fucked it up. The officer never saw a gun and had two people telling him "no one is going for a gun." His response? Fire 7 times. I believe he was frightened. * The driver did make the mistake of reaching for his driver's license instead of keeping his hands visible awaiting further instruction. This is where things went south.
* The problem is that given the total context of the situation, shooting was absolutely the WRONG thing for the officer to do. The officer should have ordered Castile to freeze and given further instructions. But there was NO JUSTIFICATION for shooting him when everything leading up to that moment suggested he was no threat, there was no gun visible (much less being pointed at the officer), and the officer had full view of Castile's arms and hands.
