To answer the second part, European pagan heritage has many layers. It is obvuous some stories and perceptions are older than others. In ancient times concepts were incorporated into the dominant traditions and the older died off because they were not relevant anymore.

The problem now is that ALL of the European haplogroups are in danger of disappearing over the next to centuries, barring war. Including any catastrophes like war, further migration, and economic collapse-well, it's hard to say how long we have left.

The reason many pagans are pagan is to form some kind of connection with our ancestors, people who looked like us, spoke an older version of our language and shared customs that many of ours evolved from. It is a celebration of white identity and cultural values of honor, dignity, pride and self sacrifice. The reason to think otherwise is that the pantheons are different, the stories are different and the organisation of the pantheons are also very different. There is no split of the Gods in Greek pantheon for example as they are all Olympian, while in the Norse pantheon there are two groups of Gods plus the 7 worlds or realms. Pretty much all pagans I've ever met were in some way prohibited from speaking of the details of their faith. Some traditions even put the death penalty on admitting that you are pagan.

As for proof: As I said, none of us speak openly about the old ways. Neither do we go out and attempt to convince others. Yet still, every now and then peope will just randomly walk up to one of us, say the traditional passwrds and as to join us.

One example that happened to me: I'd just moved from southern to western germany and knew nobody in the area. Neither did anybody know that I was pagan.
During a fistfight at school I took a brass knuckle from some kid and figured that since it wouls be illegal to keep it I might as well sacrifice it, so I went into the woods to a hidden spring in the middle of the night, melted it up and poured the molten metal in. How can you practice a religion you know nothing about? There are no records of ancient Slavic religion. The majority of those come from Russian sources, but it is heavily implied that every tribe had its own take on it, with unique sets of beliefs. Besides that, Russians were heavily influenced by the Norse, so what is true for a Russian isn't necessarily true for other Slavic tribes.
The other problem with Slavic paganism is that the "research" often tried to reinvent the belief systems, rather than restore or reconstruct them. So a lot of what is assumed are actually wild speculations, e.g. the assumed existence of Belobog which was based solely on the existence of Chernobog. Namely, there are no clues that any such deity existed, but the researchers assumed that since there was Chernobog, there also had to be some counter deity and they named it Belobog. They actually invented it and called it a fact.
The only way we can glimpse anything of our original religion is through folklore and religious practices which obviously have nothing to do with Christianity, those that were assimilated by the church to make the transition to Christianity more palatable to the common folk. But that is nowhere near enough to base a religion on. I am sorry to say, but Slavic paganism is long dead, and I'm afraid there's nothing we can do to revive it. Any attempt to do so would be unfounded on any kind of coherent system and would ultimately be just larping.
