Horse. Shit. The CIA and others have been trying to "claim" the 60's for many years now, hoping to re-write history. The reality is that the 60's "hippies" were the followers of a bunch of actual radical movements that emerged as the Beat poets, the Free Speech movement, and Existentialism. LSD was used in experiments that college kids signed up for at Stanford (Ken Kesey, notably) - they did tons of experimental drugs and liked that one, so they started giving it to other people in San Francisco. LSD was not even banned until 1966, by which time the cat was out of the box. The counter-revolution to this cultural movement was quickly formed and they infiltrated and led it as much as possible, but the core pirate bands remained and the REAL 60's people were nothing like the stupid hippies you think. It's not that hard to find this out through research or talking to people from that period who weren't idiots. Real people with direct knowledge of this would be in their late 60's and 70's now, FYI.

CIA didn't create the hippie movement but they did try to infiltrate is and derail it. Hippie movement was a economic and social threat against the government at large specifically the Vietnam war effort. In this the CIA would have every motive in destroying the hippie moment rather than keep it going.
