There won't be a civil war. The media is desperately trying to make things seem chaotic and on a knife edge, but people are mostly okay with things in the USA. * Start a family

You want to buy useful land:
* Something you can farm on in the spring and summer.
* Something that has timber for fuel.
* Something that has water, ideally a deep well.
* Something far enough away from others, but close enough to get to if you are not permanently living in it when the collapse happens.

You want to learn a bunch of useful skills (not only for yourself, but to trade for other goods and services):
* Canning / Fermenting
* Hunting / Trapping / Tracking / Fishing
* Farming / Animal Husbandry
* Smithing / Carpentry / Mechanics


SHORT TERM GOALS:

Provisions:
* Firearms
* Ammunitions (at least 2000 rounds for each caliber of gun you have)
* Basic Tool kit (Hammer, nails, screw drivers, saw, etc)
* First Aid
* Rope
* Fire starters
* 3 months of food. Dry foods can be problematic because it will cause you to use more water to hydrate them and use a lot of fuel to boil the water.

* 3 months of hygienic water

Currencies:
* Ammunitions

* Anything you think that people will want that will be difficult for them to produce on their own.
