What exactly did they do? I am looking for something, some clues. Perhaps a new material? They got a grant from MIT for what exactly? Being a group of 12 girls doing what? What is the achievement here?

the tent is solar powered so it never runs out of electricity and stays like a tent. without electricity it would collapse, dumbass
>>130195345
But they bought a pre-made tent and pre-made solar panel. And sew it together. How does that give one MIT funding?
I must have missed something important here?
>Tackle homelessness
>Don't build homeless a home
>Here: Play on iPad
that's some strong virtue signaling right there.

they bought a tent and lued a premade solar cell on the side of it and wired the solar panel to a car battery
this is generic virtue signaling. its just like clock boy who didnt make a clock but took the casing off of one
There are better concepts for solar powered tents out there. Why not fund them?

>Why not fund them?
Because there's no money to be made in actually helping the homeless. It's a complete nonstory.

If anything, hobos are going to love living in tents and being homeless.

What have you accomplished? Have you ever made anything even remotely as cool? I bet you can barely make toast.

>The reason the tent is so special is that it has button-powered lights, two USB ports and a micro-USB port.
Looks like they sewed in some solar panels, stored the engergy in to some double a batteries and also wired some led lights. Not bad. At least they are not on twitch showing their tits.

serisuly underrated post.
>>130195862
Because no one else even thought of it? Including the people at MIT.
>>130195231
They didnt do anything.
MIT is just getting good advertisement for supporting women in this case.
Same for shit like self filling water bottles or solar roadways, doesnt matter if its feasible, its attentiok grabbing for the masses

Is it birthright?
Fuck's sake. Taking things that have already been invented, and combining them, hardly qualifies as a new invention. It's not like campers don't already use solar panels, usb chargers, and water purifiers.
A few months ago my gf mentioned some news where a girl got recognition for "inventing" a device that generated electricity from a mug of hot water, for camping. Except you could ALREADY buy those on the market. And peltier-seebeck devices have been on the market for decades, and the effect was known over a century ago.
"Science" "journalism" and the grant givers are as bad as political news. Usually the only reason we hear about these whiz-kids is because they are women or brown, like clock boy. There is a redeeming quality, these girls are actually learning and doing things.

Pretty sure I would be able to put together a solar powered toaster in order to tackle the declining quality of food in africa. Where do I apply for funding?
