There is already a ton of ag in just about every place that's actually suited to it. It doesn't employ many people. Just over 1 million in the whole country. Most of them are low paid migrants. It's pretty hard to compete with corporate commercial farming in the midwest, so the only option is subsistence farming and that's not an option unless you managed to get some land during the boom.

We need to bring back some sawmills and manufacturing, and just do it a little cleaner. Most of the serious environmental problems in the US were cleaned up or on their way to being cleaned up by about 1990.

The history to the song is honestly pretty funny. A song that was meant to mock slavery in the south ended up becoming the most popular tune in the south and then the north and south had basically fights over who could claim the song and both sides writing all sorts of variants on the lyrics. Similar thing happened with the song Battle Cry of Freedom. The author wrote it as a pro-abolition song but the song's lyrics were so subtle it became popular with all Union soldiers but it was so catchy Confederates then wrote their own version. It's like a 1860s version of a rap beef or something in a way with how these songs were treated.
