Its a real shame. I was thinking about this the other day and literally the last game I played that truly wowed me was the Witcher 3 that came out 2 years ago, then the last of us after that. Since then games have been straight garbage or SJW pandery bullshit. Literally the last game I saw that got me hyped was For Honor. I played the beta and it was great, then the full game came out and it was textbook Ubisoft and literally unplayable (near constant connection issues and OP spam attacks). Fallout 4 improved graphic wise and game-play was good. Everything else was a step back.

Fallout 4 and Skyrim are both games that create the illusion of being really in depth when they're actually not. Fallout 4 had very little choice in the game. Every ending is the same and you're offered little to no different outcomes for quest. It is also essentially impossible to be evil in the game except in Nuka World DLC.

This adds to there being no reason to do multiple playthroughs to obtain different outcomes. Couple that with the streamlined perk/progression system and there is really no reason to ever make multiple characters. When Fallout 4 removed the skill system and perk system of the previous games it was Bethesda just wanting to streamline it to appeal to more normies. For example in previous games if you wanted to roleplay a character who was good with energy weapons you had to invest in skills specifically for energy weapons. In Fallout 4 you just invest in a perk for either automatic or non-automatic weapons. It doesn't matter whether they are energy weapons or not. This goes against the lore and makes role playing harder.

Also when they removed skills they stripped the game of skill checks which weakened choice and dialogue further. If you're roleplaying as a scientist and speaking with another scientist about a specific topic, and you're intelligence is high enough to understand. Your character should have unique dialogue to communicate with.

I enjoyed Skyrim but if it wasn't for mods the game would have not been nearly as popular. Base game Skyrim is pretty bad and mods can't even fix the horrible writing.

Skyrim's biggest problem was that it ultimately went nowhere. The first couple hours are amazing at setting up the world and letting you just kind of wander from one crazy adventure to the next... but the moment it comes time to actually do the two main campaigns - defeating Alduin and the Civil War - it's a complete fucking letdown because the arcs are painfully low on actual content (the entire Civil War campaign was like four missions) and more importantly neither campaign connected to or reflected on any of the other shit you had done or could do in the game.

Did you become the Harbinger of the Companions? That's great, don't expect any help from them in the liberating Skyrim. Did you become the King of Thieves? That'll never come back up again. Are you the Archmage of the College of Winterhold? Winterwho? Never heard of them. The fact you can quite easily find yourself being the leader of a dozen different factions, thane of the nine holds, and champion of five or six different gods by the time you start the main quest lines and that they in no way acknowledge any of this as they force you to bend the knee and pick one chucklefuck or another to ally with was beyond retarded.

The epicness of the main quest lines that was portrayed early in the game didn't scale with the rest of the game... so by the time you end the Civil War or kill the World Eater it was less "HOLY SHIT! I DID IT!" and more "meh, that was underwhelming".
