Primary produce has gone overseas, but the mining industry itself has grown strong from it. What part of selling minerals overseas to hungry china as they built up means we can't mine other minerals now and start to use them here?
Solar panels, wind turbines, pcs, phones, all tech we should be manufacturing with locally mined resources, and as labour prices there rise it will be competitive by the time it's in swing

But that's the problem - back then when the govt. should've been promoting secondary/tertiary production and manufacturing they were selling shit out of the ground to the Taiwanese and Japanese. And not putting the royalties from that money back into infrastructure.
