We're pretty much immune to demographic shifts here because the Gov't prints so much money and pumps it into the local economy. The federal government collects taxes from all over the country and the DMV area is the main benefactor. All gov't contractors, bureaucrats, lobbyists, etc do business with the federal gov't except it's not a real business in traditional terms. The gov't takes money by taxation and pumps it into pubic services. It's not their money, and they're not really competing against anyone.

I live in the Bay area now, and it can be the same mindset with some of the people in tech. So much money thrown around that people start to forget what its like outside these geographic bubbles. It's one of the reasons why people didn't think Trump had a chance. They started to believe their own bullshit. Complete arrogance and ideological isolation.
