The real hippies were only around for a short time, and there weren't many of them, most of them were in SF. My cousin was one one them - he lasted two months, before he headed home, broke, and sick as a dog. 1983 in the MI Upper Peninsula and a few regionals in Southern AZ at Cochise's Stronghold and one in Big Sur,CA.

You have to also understand the context of their upbringing. They were scared of being trapped in "traditional" society because of rigid standards imposed by WWII. Their fathers fought in the military and their mothers worked in the factories. Everything was automated and ordered in an unquestionable fashion.

It still doesn't excuse their destructive actions, but it's important to learn why so many wanted to become hippies.

It was an escape, and I think had the Nazi's won, there would have been an even larger and more disastrous hippie movement that would have sprung from the Heart of Europe.

I was in a town in the UP once when the rainbow children wandered through. They overran a gas station and stole everything inside that wasn't nailed down and they were lighting up next to the gas pumps and indoors. Hippies are leaches. They're subhuman trash who take pride in actively falling for every scheme, scam, and cult that doesn't involve them giving up their money. They preach sharing, but mean stealing. They invade public parks spaces available to everyone, but can't treat it with the same respect everyone else does. Despite their constant, vague prattling about serving mother earth, they're mass polluters who shit in public, steal, litter, uproot, and trample everywhere. Hippies are directly responsible for the anti-vacc movement and all sorts of other homeopathic horseshit that has been responsible for dead kids all over the west coast. Fuck hippies.
