German- luxurious, high-tech, expensive, high repair bills, unreliable, value depreciates fast mos of the time

Japan - reliable, fast, smaller engines, relatively cheap, awesome for a daily driver

America- Big cars, big pushrod v8s, have caught up and have loads of performance now, good value per dollar, pretty reliable

I like them all but I drive a ZL1 for fun

Over in New Zealand the vehicle fleet is WAY older than most of the West. For example, my cars are a 1985 Mazda (NZ built though) and a 1991 Toyota.

The staggering majority of these cars are Japanese, if you want a testament to the longevity of their vehicles you only need to go outside.

Compared with Ford/Holden cars which are generally fucked if older than '03 or so, or anything Euro which are few and far between, rightly earning the title 'Euro-shitter', there is no contest.

BMW E39 530 love it although the suspension is a bitch for our roads and needs regular maintenance. Used a Audi 80 previously for family transport, field plowing, taking potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers and turnip to the market and etc great machine with extremely low maintenance and with a LNG tank it cost pennies to use, it died at 400k kilometers due to structural damage and the engine became unserviceable.

Define best.

For reliability, you can't beat the Japanese, at least Honda or Toyota. Boring econoboxes but they generally run and run.
(Honda sometimes gets into trouble with Acura because they'll take a transmission that had a small engine in the Honda version and put a much larger engine on it, and then the transmission gets fucked over time, see the MDX).

Ford and GM vary wildly by model. Fiat Chrysler is garbage.

German cars are overcomplicated pieces of shit, would never buy them. Work on German software and have owned German mechanical shit before. Rather than the Japanese assembly of function without complexity, Germans will add tons of extra parts because it's theoretically 0.001% better, and that means reliability takes a nosedive.

Here's my Dutch perspective

Japan makes meticulously well built cars, but they're inundated with distracting details and if you leave the styling to them it still leaves something to be desired, exceptions apply. They have the reputation of never going wrong but if something goes wrong with them, they die completely. Fairly priced, as common here as Pacific brands.

America makes loads of good looking cars that are relatively basic in design, simple to operate but ever since Ford went to full-automatic production it seems like their production quality took a nosedive. Affordable like Japanese cars but my country in particular hates the Mustang. Stock $28.000,- or thereabouts iirc, here it's €59.000,- and that's with the ecoboost engine, not the roaring V8. That one's €102.000,-. Shit country desu senpai.
Ford is very common and recently I've started to see more and more Dodge pickups, a TV item mentioned it's got to do with them being classified as vans which exempts them from certain taxes, and the sheer practicality of course of a vehicle that can carry 4-5 people and an additional 12 in the flatback if necessary.
Other brands are a rare sight, exceptions being rebranded Daewoos and the Chevrolet Volt.

Germany is renowned for its build quality and its shit pallete of customers (Audi drivers), they're fairly expensive here compared to American and Japanese wheels but then you get what you pay for in gorgeous looks and raw performance. Most offerings are derivatives of the Golf and the Polo though, Mercedes and Audi seem the only ones to maintain their own chassis.
They're also incredibly common here, even ignoring all the taxis and Uber drivers.
Their cheaper offerings really look cheap too, the VW Up exclamation mark may be fun to drive according to journos but I've never seen one driven properly, or in good condition. Ladies car.

Incorrect. It's the official US Military technical. The official truck of ISIS is the Hilux with a tiny diesel engine in it. You can't get one in the US without paying an arm and a leg.

Japan, not even close. Look on the road at cars with 100,000+ miles and the majority are from Japan. Look at cars with 200,000+ miles and the vast majority are from Japan. This is not even a question.

Agree, ive always been a chevy guy, but after dealing with garbage-tier chevy colorado and shit quality builds of other chevy vehicles (2009 malibu, 2010 chevy express van and 2001 chevy pickup) I bought a taco and im disappointed in myself that I never gave Toyota a chance before, because its absolutely a solid truck. My only regret is I got the electric grey, its nice but the white tacoma looks bad ass.

toyota and BMW

have had mercedes before, also a nice car but driver experience is much better with bmw

don't feel strongly about american cars one way or another.. the general perception is that they aren't that good but haven't driven many myself so i wouldn't know

japanese cars are generally thought of as being very ordinary, safe and reliable but basically just outright boring, whereas german cars (bar opel and VW) are more luxurious, better designed and more fun to drive

I think Most japanese Cars are decent, but unintresting and mostly astheticly speaking not the best. I like the american cars especially their huge power, but mostly they aren't suited for here and sometimes not asthetic in the wrong Environment (strong pick up is decent in very rual area, but looks often Strange in a City or suburb). I think i go with German Cars they are objectivly the best, but l admit they aren't cheap and sometimes even overprized.

I hate them, but they drive so smooth. Prior was an old 97? m3, 2006 wrx, 2006 Silverado 1500, 2000 mustang, 1999 prelude, 96 mx6.

Next car is probably going to be another pre 06 mustang. I hate a lot of the safety standards that came about in 07.

Hilux is based on the older model Tacomas and has a tiny little indestructible diesel in them. The new Tacomas are still pretty sturdy, but pale in comparison to the Hilux in reliability. However, there's a reason special forces guys still use Toyota Tacomas.

Though, ultimately, I'd say the early model Tundras are the best IMO. Had one for 6 years and loved it. Drove that thing across the country and then my sister stole it and totaled it.

>>130022979
In reality the few repairs you do have to rarely make to fords are so simple and cheap you can do them yourself and have a nice dad-son fun bonding time over it. The other American brands are basically China tier shit and German cars are great until they break down and you find out you need an engineering degree to even find out how to change the fucking oil

I did say closest thing

Crown Vic was made in Canada all its life and Ford Canada did much of the design work but built off a US platform and used US engine/drivetrain (except they designed a precision aluminum driveshaft for the P71s)

I just am thankful ford let us more or less design at least one car in our history of being a country. I think we could have a pretty good auto brand from here if our government wasn't a piece of crap that loves to kill innovation
Same way we used to make godlike planes. We had potential as a country our government killed it

German cars like VW are very reliable, I prefer those over BMW, Audi and Mercedes which are more expensive, break down more often and are more expensive to repair.
>>

My parents own a Daewoo Nubira rebranded into Chevrolet. They expected an American car. They got a piece of shit on coasters.
Just €2k more would have netted them a Jaguar X-Type. €8k instead of €6k. Nah, Nubira seems better. Fucking shite.

German - Vehicles are luxury and fast but expensive and maintenance is expensive. unreliable.

America - Vehicles are more 'utilitarian' but there are some luxury vehicles. Somewhat expensive. reliable vehicles. maintenance is fairly cheap and easy to do yourself. Parts everywhere. Reliable.

Japan - The final vehicle redpill. Vehicles are fairly cheap and very reliable. Parts are everywhere. Very reliable. Some are fast, not a lot of luxury vehicles. be careful of the shitty S.Korea knock-off brands.

I've owned multiple American vehicles (Chevy, Ford, Jeep), multiple Japan vehicles(Honda), and a single German vehicle(BMW). All of very nice vehicles that work but the one I hated the most was the BMW with the stupid expensive repair bills and typical cost of ownership.

American and Japan cars are better.

America

>I want a fuel efficient vehicle capable of getting me and my family around comfortably without paying too much money
Japan

>I want a stylish vehicle capable of doing everything that Honda does, but I don't like Hondas
Germany

This is it. Unless you are looking at towing capacity, tongue weight, GVWR of vehicle and trailer, and hauling shit, like, 26 ft+ campers, then almost every vehicle manufacturer in the world is almost the same due to regulations now enforced on emissions.
