John Wilkes Booth is the reason why the South is still a shithole today Cleetus. Abraham Lincoln wanted to restore the south and completely rebuild it. When Lincoln was gone the faction of the government that wanted to PUNISH the South gained power and the South has never fully recovered from the war because of that. Lincoln living and reigning in the people who wanted the South to pay reparations for the war would have meant there wouldn't be this divide between Southerners and "Yankees" that still exists today. The South would be prosperous and we'd be one unified people.
