Mayweather is largely considered to be the best defensive boxer of all time. He's extremely difficult to hit.
If Mayweather is a perfect 10/10 for boxing, McGregor is probably a 6/10 at best. On paper, McGregor shouldn't have a chance.

However, some reasons that people believe McGregor MIGHT win are:
1. McGregor is by far the larger man. I doubt he'll fight below 155lb, so Mayweather is going to be giving up a lot of weight.
2. What skill McGregor DOES have in boxing revolves around two main attributes: Timing and ridiculous knockout power. McGregor excels at hitting guys who are normally difficult to hit, and he puts them down with one punch. McGregor quote: "Timing beats speed, precision beats power." And he's proven that to be true for himself in most of his wins.
3. McGregor has a HUGE psychological advantage for the following reasons:
A. He's a master shit-talker. He is very good at getting into his opponents head.
B. Mayweather has never had to face anyone who can legitimately beat the shit out of him. He's always been favored in any fight he's been in. If this was an MMA match, Mayweather would get the shit kicked out of him in seconds and you can be sure McGregor is going to use that fact to get into his head even more than usual. Never underestimate the power of psychology in a fight. Self-doubt is a bitch.
C. And finally, 99% of the pressure is on Mayweather. He's trying to break a record for most wins (50-0) in a pro career and McGregor could potentially fuck that up for him. Whereas McGregor is basically risking nothing here. It's a huge payday for him and if he loses, he always has the excuse of "Well this was boxing only, not MMA. I wanted to give it a try and so I fought the best to see how I stood up against him." There's no shame in losing to the GOAT of another sport.

Either way, I'm pumped to see what happens.
