They're really shooting themselves in the foot. It's honestly because they're allowing nu-males to take on leadership positions. Pleading that they aren't "the mean whites" like those other guys and hoping that earns them points.
They should have just declined to comment on a political group, pointed back to their previous denouncement of racism (long time ago), and left it at that. Now they're causing even more internal conflict because alt-right is so loosely defined and many young people identify as that as well as being christian because they simply don't subscribe to bullshit pushed by leftists.
Meanwhile they don't denounce homosexual advocates within the church. I have cut myself off from so many "christians" and their supporters that openly post pictures celebrating their gay pride and speaking blasphemy.
"Only God can judge me!" They shriek defiantly. Oh, you better believe He will.

The denomination voted in it's first black president purely as a virtue signal that they are no longer racist.
SEBTS (the seminary) is overridden with yanks and millennials, all bringing their progressive ideology into the schools that new pastors are trained. In turn, these pastors take the progressive message to their congregation, and the disease spreads.
The president, and many congregations, endorsed Black Lives Matter, another way to virtue signal their anti-racism.
Unfornately, the SBC is suffering from the same syndrome as Germany. Their ancestors (((made mistakes))) so the progeny must (((pay)))
The SBC's first mistake was abandoning church covenants. Now any SBC church can operate totally on the will of the pastor. Covenants restrained the pastor's powers to alter church doctrine, but now that they are gone, this shit happens.
