Not sure. I think overt racism has just become much more taboo since the 90's. These pollsters typically know the names, phone numbers, and even addresses of the people who they are surveying. Would you want everyone to know that you are averse to interracial marriage? If not, you'd lie and say you are okay with it so there is no detriment to your employment opportunities and social status.
