2) No they didn't. You can watch video of any of the collapses and see that the debris falling off to the side accelerated much faster than the actual collapses. NIST's reproduction of the collapse was a two step process - photos and testimony from firefighting crews were used to determine the structural and fire damage before the collapse, this data was fed into an ANSYS simulation to determine the spread of the fires and the thermal damage to the supports. That data was then fed into an LS-DYNA rigid body simulation to predict the likely collapse sequence.

NIST's simulation is the ONLY rigid body simulation to successfully reproduce the premature collapse of the penthouse floors, something Truther groups like AE911 STILL don't have an explanation for after 16 years.

Actually they released about 95% of the files back in 2010 as part of a FOIA request.

The only element that they held back was the break element code they used to simulate the precise failure of the beams (which they're not allowed to release by federal safety laws). However any engineer with basic LS-DYNA experience could produce a similar code.
