There are two large political parties:
Chungkuo Kuomintang (Chinese Nationalist Party) who are PRC boot lickers originally lead by Chiang Kai-shek when they retreated to Taiwan. At that period of time, they wanted all commies to die. Idgaf what happened, they are a bunch of assholes now.

Democratic Progressive Party originally formed because the other party was the only one and was being an asshole. They started a bunch of social activities and tried to make Taiwan better. Now they are licking large companies' boots and was being so degenerate since May of 2016.

The general opinions are so different because most people either one or another of these two parties and the rivalry is dirty and ugly.
Non of the parties was doing any good and the fight made it worse.

What these two parties have to do with the question in OP?
Well, Chinese Nationalists Party tried to sell off Taiwan to China on so many occasions and their decisions always seem to benefit China and hurt Taiwan.

I'm living out of a cafe right now. That being said, I'm really in no position to be visiting Taiwan. I can't even speak Cantonese. I do have Taiwanese friends though, they're usually pretty based, hence why I asked the question. I wanted to know if ALL of Taiwan was like them.
