I think the linguistic evidence and the general look of the region at the time are more telling. Sumerian is an isolate, just like Elamite. Later, Indo-European people came in.

No, it's a calculation. If there is no mutual respect, the relationship will be unstable, unhealthy and unpleasant, as one side will always feel that they are treated unfairly (which is the case). Only raw indoctrination allows people to forget that they are being abused in a situation like this. It's not pride so much as self-respect, which is vital in any situation and typically is a trait appreciated around here. Him being God doesn't justify automatically everything he does, he needs to be held accountable for that.

I don't think I give myself more value than I have. I think I'm trying to assess my worth as accurately as possible. From the perspective of a believer, that means that I give myself a worth you wouldn't dare to give yourself, but it is not hubris and it's not self-important. I simply think that one needs to assert him/herself to a certain degree not to get crushed by others, as my experience has shown. I also don't think God as presented in the Bible is beyond me. Quite the contrary, actually, as I see him as emotionally, psychologically and intellectually inferior to many humans.
