Go back to taking care of your wife's child and reading your communist manifesto. The US could have sent a man or satellite to orbit space before the Soviets, but chose to shoot for the moon instead. Being able to spend what is worth billions now into a project and not collapse is what makes the US the real winners.

Reliable transistors were developed and mass-produced for Navaho and Minuteman I, actually. ICs were developed in parallel for Apollo and Minuteman II.

Apollo was big on the minicomputer front, though; they needed a lot of them for simulators and ground-based guidance. And pioneered modern software engineering (including coining that term in the first place).

Heh. Our Nazi rocket scientists beat the Soviet Nazi rocket scientists. It is worth noting that Von Braun was in regular communication with Goddard and was a fan of his work. Hitler saw value in a large scale missile program when FDR did not. Von Braun also hand picked and surrounded himself with like minded engineers once he came to the U.S.. The scientists the Soviets nabbed basically had to work with what they had.

Yeah, they're bleached out. It's what happens when you put $5.50 flags in an unshielded vacuum environment.

The etched memorial plaques on the landing stages are designed to survive forever, the flags were an afterthought.

The American R&D programs were much wider in scope and slower progressing – at the same time Atlas was still exploding on the launch pad, reusable space planes were in development – while the Russians could only ever afford 2-3 small, focused programs. A manned Moon landing was predicted to be sufficiently far ahead and complicated that the US could leverage their bigger R&D sector to eventually pull ahead because the Soviets simply couldn't do as much shit in parallel.

>Put flag on moon.
Sure.kinda silly, but as dick waving goes, it's pretty harmless. It was the middle of the Cold War. If we hadn't been spending billions on Mercury, Gemini and Apollo, we would have spent it on our military. Would you you rather that we had a full scale nuclear war than putting a silly flag on a big rock in space? I was alive during the Cold War. I remember the constant fear of total nuclear annihilation. Until the Soviets folded up and dissolved in 89, I and everyone I knew were basically convinced that some day our lives would end in either a thermonuclear fireball or from a slow painful death in the aftermath. So, yeah, putting the fucking flag on the rock was worth it.

I dunno any lens/sensor combo that could take pictures of stars while half the image is getting blasted by unfiltered mid-day sun reflected off white moon rocks.

Shine a LED flashlight in your eye, then try to see the stars by squinting past it. Good luck.

Avionics was less advanced than what the US could build at the time, the aerodynamic shell was suboptimal and useless (again, the US was leading here); and the rocket engine design already outdated during the war: Eugen Sänger's regeneratively cooled nozzles would be the basis for post-war designs, not Von Braun's uncooled massive metal designs.

Sure, I'll agree to that. The treasure trove wasn't the passel of V1s and V2s we got though. It was Von Braun. He organized and basically built NASA into what it became. By the time we got to Apollo, we were way beyond anything he had even dreamed about while working for the Third Reich. Fun fact, the black and white color scheme of all NASA extra atmospheric vehicles was at Von Braun's insistence. He also had Jet Propulsion Laboratory an the Marshall Spaceflight Center located in Huntsville, Alabama because it looked like where he grew up in Germany.

Also, this: >>129852093 This is something I don't get. Any flat earth theory has to account for what must be a global conspiracy to push the "lie" model, so... why? How is that explained? What's the goal?

Low-earth orbit ferry missions don't need to push any envelopes, as NASA's Commercial Crew program demonstrates (which ruled out a crewed X-37 variant because it would be pointless dick waving).

As nice as the X-37 is, some days you don't want to spend a billion dollars just to send a school teacher to the ISS.

Of course, Russia is too broke to do anything but Soyuzes (and it took them twenty years to reverse engineer the bits of it that are built by Ukraine, top kek), but credit where it's due.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soyuz_TMA-11

>Anatoly Perminov, the head of the Russian Federal Space Agency, speculated that the ballistic reentry was connected to a Russian nautical superstition that having more women than men on a craft was unlucky. The return flight of Soyuz TMA-11 was the first time two women flew together on board a Soyuz and it was the first time women outnumbered men aboard a spacecraft since Valentina Tereshkova's solo flight in 1963. "This isn't discrimination," Perminov stated when challenged on the point. "I'm just saying that when a majority [of the crew] is female, sometimes certain kinds of unsanctioned behaviour or something else occurs." Perminov said he would try to ensure that the number of women would not exceed the number of men in the future.

I'm Greek Orthodox, actually (family came from Greece one generation back,) and my mother's Roman Catholic, so I've read the Book, and I never saw anything in it that said God couldn't or wouldn't create a vast universe.

Mark Twain once wrote a very good short story, about a man traveling to Heaven on a comet after he had died (just his soul, of course.) He goes off-course by accident, and arrives at the wrong gate, and is surprised to see many aliens filtering in through the gates of heaven. He's informed that the Savoir visited *every* world in all the universe with intelligent life, and brought all of them the message of God.

The point is, I don't understand how we can presume to put limits on God's power of creation, or to presume that we can second-guess him. All we have are the scriptures, which was his Revelation to us, and his scriptures are meant to be read on two levels - one as a children's tale (for when we were without knowledge, and thus children,) and on a deeper, more meaningful level, for when our understanding had matured. Not for nothing did the Catholic church endorse and sponsor science and actually work it into their official church doctrines - for all its discoveries, science has yet to actually contradict the bible. In fact, it tends to vindicate it - we've found extensive evidence of massive floods from the Ice Age era all across the planet. Even anthropology tells us every culture has a Giant Flood story in their oldest tales.

God can do whatever the fuck he wants. He runs this shit.

"Haste" is right. The dog you fired into space died within hours due to overheating, because the mission had been rushed to "beat the Americans," so there was no time to test the cooling system. Your "firsts" beat us by a matter of months, because we actually bothered to test our fucking systems instead of hurling men to their deaths to score wank-off points in the press.

>Do the Shuttle crews count as "outright murdered"

Damn near, actually. The travesty with the O-rings on Challenger was fucking horrific - the engineers fucking knew it was going to happen, they were SCREAMING it - but Columbia was, in my opinion, pretty much fucking murder. The NASA stance on it was "lets not inspect for damage at all, because if they can't come down there's nothing we can do anyway, so it'd be better if they just died without knowing what hit them." Which was the exact same fucking excuse they used to refuse an inspection of Columbia's wings, after the engineers pointed out video evidence of ice striking them - WITH ATLANTIS ALREADY SITTING ON THE FUCKING PAD AND BEING PREPPED FOR ANOTHER MISSION. By chance, they had a rescue window available, and they just stuck their fingers in their fucking ears and went NYAH NYAH NYAH.

But Komarov was fucking *murdered.* He knew hew was going to die, and only flew because if he backed out, Yuri (his friend) would be sent instead. They thickened the heat shield at one point - necessitating an increase in the parachute diameter - but they didn't increase the parachute container sizes. So they just hammered the fucking parachutes in with wooden mallets, which is why they didn't deploy, and why he hit the ground at terminal velocity. Even compared to the travesties at NASA, they may as well have put a gun to that man's head and pulled the fucking trigger.

Fucking slavs.

they mixed theoretical bullshit you can't prove with actual science to make you confused
globe earth is just piggybacking on actual science, it has no actual scientific evidence
they know you're a good little goy that won't dare question it, so it passes

you never even heard the entire story from the opposite side

i can assure you that a huge majority of flat earthers know your heliocentric model in and out, much better than you will ever know it

tyson doesn't even know (in 2017) how much the earth is supposed to curve in 1 mile

you can't find a flat earther that doesn't know that

all in all, you're just ignorant and i'm not going to change that so ...

Don't forget the first Soviet EVA, which almost ended with Leonov dying because they bolted a small airlock onto a Vostok capsule without testing whether it was actually big enough to fit a fully inflated space suit.

And the Soviets lost another cosmonaut on the ground when they put him in a pure oxygen atmosphere with space heater that had exposed, glowing-hot wires, and then told him to wash himself with pure alcohol and a cotton towel.

NASA nor Soviets were both pants-on-head retarded at times.

I don't think you have a model. I think you have nothing but piss-poor brainwashing and non-explanations for physical phenomena people were observing before the fucking wheel was invented. You literally linked a video of someone walking in a field - which can be uneven, or with a slope, unlike, you know, WATER - and cited that as evidence, and over the course of this thread you've managed to convince me that you're actually fucking serious about this.

I bet you think Jews run the world, too. Despite living in a desert hellhole surrounded by filthy fucking Arabs instead of, you know, ANYWHERE ELSE ON FUCKING EARTH. If I ran the world I'd live in, uh, ANYWHERE ELSE ON FUCKING EARTH. You know?
