A plane is capable of doing more than enough to get the shit done needed for the government/CIA/Mossad. Those buildings didn't even have to fall for that. The hijackings and crashes alone were easily enough. The collapses were icing on the cake. The job was done the moment the first plane hit. BOOM. We got our attack. Now we can make laws and push for war. OH SHIT! The buildings actually did collapse? Well that just makes it even easier.

The only definitive goal was to hijack planes and fly them into iconic structures for TV crews.
That's why there were two hits to the WTC, one for each tower. First hit made news media put their cameras onto the buildings. Second hit drove the message home for the millions watching.
