It's very complex, and trying to speak for Westerrn Europe, these are some main factors in random order in my books:

1. Social sciences and humanities in general are completly subverted (biology too, but not too relevant) by internationalism/globalism/no borders ideas. Cricicism is either ignored or ridiculed. Most people fine by this because our countries are still great to live in, right?

2. The media was also completly subverted for a long time (internet is changing this thankfully), basically dictating every narrative. Critics of immigration/identity politics/everything that has taken a turn for the wrong as we see today, both legit and not so legit criticism either ignored or ridiculed. Again either ignored or even appreciated by people. Comfortably numb.

3. Centrist thought completly taking over - the system is here to stay and only minor alterations with the different parties. And this is a result of people becoming very comfortable, luckily this is changing and protest parties are forming all over from left to right. A good example of this is that "Extremist" and "Radical" is used as some kind of smear word. It's radical not to want to be genocided.

4. Economic benefit for the rich and for the banks. New people = new loaners. New workers willing to work for lower salaries than the native population, which I think at least have led to many rich people not to mind immigration too much even if they are racist. So the most powerful "players" don't care.

5. This point would go under education/media too, but it should stand alone; virtue signalling. It's not random that the most arrogant people in Europe seems to be the most fucked (Frenchmen, Germans, Swedes and partly the Dutch). The media and educational system have all created an environment where being open borders and immigration is hip and the morally superior way of thinking. These kind of arrogant virtue signalers are over-represented as career Politicians and in journalism(!).

Yeah, I know, but it's hard not to be polemic when talking European politics.
I agree with many of the economic policies, and would appreciate if she actually reduced the state and helped the middle class.
But in reality she's doing anything in her power to fuck over German workers, while the benefits of the policies went straight to banks and foreigners who are treated very differently from the native population.
