I would feel dubious about making my masters research on something like that yes, as they may find a way of deliberately rejecting it on some bullshit grounds. Subsequent research however, one could plan the research on a similar topic that gathers the same results, and although the "intended" research topic is there, one can still shed plenty of light in the discussion section of the report on what I want to say.

It could fail miserably, but I think it's better than doing nothing. I'd rather struggle in vain
