IMO the reason it can't work is very specific and probably not intuitive. The key to a free society is a free independent press. The press we have in a capitalist democracy is very much compromised but it still holds people accountable to some degree at the end of the day. There's a limit to what the ruling class can get away with and how badly (((they))) can lie to us. But imagine what the MSM would be like in a society without private property. It would literally be an arm of the government. And sure people would scoff at the media and act like they know "it's all propaganda, man" but it would be so corrupt that the goverenment could literally get away with murder. This is precisely why communist/socialist societies are always always total tyranny. The gibs are usually just good enough to quiet the rabble.
