>Millennials are threatening dozens of industries.

>They don't buy napkins. They won't play golf. They aren't buying homes or cars. And they're not even eating at Buffalo Wild Wings.

>Millennials' financial decisions have been heavily covered by media organizations — something that has infuriated many of the generation, as news that "millennials are killing" another industry has become a common headline.

>"This is just some more millennial-blaming B.S.," one reader wrote in response to a recent Business Insider article with the headline "Millennials are killing chains like Buffalo Wild Wings and Applebee's."
>>
They sucked our money via college and act surprised when they want us to sit in a fucking classroom all day instead of making disposable income at a job.

This.

Also millennials didn't rape the auto and housing industry. 35 years ago you could buy a house and a car with $45,000 cash.

>>129515136
Part of it is millenial's fault and part of it isn't.

They can't help the housing market or inflation.
However they could choose to spend their money on hobbies like golf and eating out if they wanted.

>inb4 but how!?
Look everyone knows Millennials are propping up the video game industry and marijuana sales.
So they are spending money on "hobbies" its just not hobbies that will help their own community. Video games sends most of their money to Japan and Marijuana sends most of the money to gangs/cartels.
That is something millenials could change but they won't. Because they like being couch locked losers playing vidya.
They don't want to play golf or take pride in their communities.

GET A LOAD OF THIS FAG CAM!

A new car costs fucking $14,000.00 and up, and thats for bare bottom garbage, you are looking at spending normally around $20,000.00 for a new car worth anything.

As far as house, depending on where you live, can be anywhere from 50 grand to millions.

They want people to buy homes, stop trying to sell a 1 bedroom home at 500 grand and telling me its luxury.

>Want to buy a home.

Golf is a stupid and wasteful sport that is expensive and produces huge amounts of excess fertilizer runoff pollution in waterways.

It only worked in britain because their soil grows lawns naturally and it rains all the time there.

I much prefer vidya which probably pollutes nearly nothing, and is actually often produced in the US.

Millennials aren't responsible for most of this shit, asides from student loans

They had no control over house prices, massive latino immigration, federal debt, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the auto maker and bank bailouts, boomers getting old, manufacturing moving to China, and a ton of other shit that massively impacted the economy. They weren't even old enough to vote or have much say when all of that happened. Many boomers, however, oversaw these changes and were in a position to do something
>>
>>129520270
If it's anything like our version(s) no one who did three or four Iraq and Afghanistan adventures wants to sit and drink beer with men who drank beer in Germany for five years and have been riding on that since.

One important thing millenials did have control over - student loans - is a logical reaction to the death of manufacturing jobs and other industries where you can make a middle-class income just with a high school diploma. The cost of tuition spiked massively and student loans pretty much retard all spending, including buying a house or a car

And even then, people with $30,000 Western STEM degrees are in competition with Chinese, Indian, Russian engineers and programmers with $2,000 foreign degrees

Another thing millenials need - housing, rent, real estate - is expensive because jobs are clustered around cities

Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter, the Tea Party, all of these are signs that the day the shit hits the fan is coming nearer and nearer. 2008 wasn't the big blowout, they managed to patch it up and kick the can down the road. It's still coming

Depends on location.

New car: $15,000 - $30,000
House in a city: Millions
House in city outskirts: $500,000+

House in rural areas: $150,000

Economy is a carousel. As long as the money moves, there will be money to be made and money will be spent.

When the middle class is drained, and their money piles up with the top 1% - the system fails, as money stops moving.

>Seven in 10 students graduate from college with student loan debt, owing an average of over $30,000, according to the Institute for College Access and Success — and that's ignoring the massive debt of students who took out loans but did not graduate. As student-loan debt has skyrocketed, income — both for graduates and millennials who haven't attended college — has failed to substantially increase.

Maybe in Texas. Here in california, it's almost entirely from whites and hispanics who legally grow and pay their taxes. Most of it comes from up north in Imperial county and the greater Bay Area, but much of it is grown locally too.

Buying illegal weed here is a joke unless you're underaged and don't have any older friends with a medical card. There's absolutely no point in paying the same price for shittier weed that is illegal. Even then when you're underaged and buying weed illegally, you're buying it from someone who bought it legally at a dispensary, or someone who grows legally for a dispensary, but also sells under the table to his personal friends and family.

Practically speaking, no weed crosses the border INTO California. It would be a waste of money to do so.

In truth, entitlement knows no one generation. I've notice millenials really don't like doing things that they can't later talk about (on social media, or whatever). Golf is among these activities. They do things so that they can later tell their friends about it. Often, they are content with just sitting around and watching netflix. "I just watched X!" "We went to that new restaurant!" etc. This goes with relationships as well - pornography has ruined what men expect in a relationship, as social media/feminism/other media has ruined what women expect in relationships

Men expect round-the-clock sex from a relationship, reminiscent of college days with no obligations. For the most part, this works because there is always a woman around willing to spread her legs (why invest time when I can get laid without paying/doing anything??). Further, women have fucked up relationships to the extreme - they literally want a relationship just to have one. They want constant dates. Anything that isn't within a very narrow set of traits (must be tall, employed, live comfortably, have active social life, facebook, instagram, text at the right times, remain distant at the right times, show affection but not too much affection, etc) that they have made it impossible for themselves to find a happy relationship because their standards are so fucked up and it is so easy to get a new male willing to pay for their shit/follow them around.

The weekends are literally just drinking fests with occasional sex. There is no meaning to any of it. They live to drink and fuck around with no commitment to society or a family - it is individualism to the extreme.

Millenials are OBSESSED with self image. It's why most of them are unhappy, upset, undatable, and lonely. I am pretty convinced, at this point, that the only reason many millenials have interests is to maintain a social image/persona. There are scores of people that do things "just because" and not really because they actually enjoy the activity. Sad.

Buy a used honda or toyota with some miles on it. 5000 dollars can get you like close to 10 years of good vehicle depending on how much you drive it. I bought a civic for 6000 dollars during hs and am still driving it 7 years later, still runs great.

Yep, but you see they're worried about Social Security and Medicare now, millennials won't be able to fund these programs for long.

They seem to think it's their money, but they spent their money on their own parents. They don't understand that these social support programs they intend to rely upon will only work out mathematically if younger generations have it as good or better than they did.

Also boomers typically are not involved financially in their kids' lives, in the old days it was a frequent practice for the parents of a newly married couple to set them up with a house. Now that money goes toward a fancy car. Ironically when they become poorer or sicker, they find it much more difficult to move into an apartment for family-oriented elder care than they would an actual house.

The invested in the moment since the 1980s. Not a care in the world.

My parents own two pieces of property in the SF Bay Area - one in the Richmond district in SF, the other in the suburbs. The house in the suburbs is worth ~$1.5 million, and the house in SF is worth about $2 million. They have pensions from their jobs. I make more money than either of my parents made individually, but they were able to buy those homes for $250k and $400k respectively.

They recently wrote me out of their will, because I'm the bad son. I'm the rebel who wouldn't listen to them and pissed them off, and now, 9 years after I left home, I'm removed from the will.

I don't know how to take it. Like, I've never needed them and I've never planned my life around getting one of the houses. It hurts symbolically more than anything else, since they knew I loved the house in SF.

I'm just venting. I don't know who to talk to about this.

They're fucking chicken wings, why on earth are they priced like some fine dining experience. You eat them with your sloppy ape hands and stare at the sport's game on TV. It's one step above a bar, there's no way food should be that expensive for a casual chicken wing meal.

>>
>>129526935
Exactly this. Napkins are more of a luxury. Presentation for guests and such. Paper towels are just as viable and possibly better practically. perhaps this has to do with Millennials having trouble moving to upper classes, or just a more practical mindset.

I imagine fine china dining sets aren't exactly popular with the youth either.
>>
>>129515136
We are not killing industries. Industries are not keeping up with millenials.

Why buy napkins when you can go to a sink and clean yourself up with soap, water and a towel? In the long run it is cheaper and does a nicer job.

Golf takes all day to play and comes with a hefty price tag. We just don't have that much consecutive time off or the money to blow a golf game. Not to mention the time it takes to get your skill level to the point it gets fun is pretty high.

Homes start at a million dollars but our wages don't. Until the market cools off enough for houses to become reasonable again or we have a reasonable amount saved, we won't buy homes. Home depot is failing because none of us have our own homes nor the money to blow on renovations.

Cars are expensive and a lot of millennials prefer the city. So they don't bother with the pain in the ass expense if they can avoid it. When millennials do get cars, we get used cars. A lot more affordable and not front loaded with a ton of unnecessary crap. The new cars that keep to the bare minimum are built like crap. The car industry might be able to appeal to millennials if they could build a solid car with no unnecessary extras. However they won't do that. They cut too many corners on the low end car market to make decent vehicles.

I could go on but the point is simple: It isn't millennials killing these businesses. It is business that is failing to keep up with the market.

>Boomer dad wants to buy $14,000 hottub; no dad, that's a bad idea. Does it anyways, sells it later for $2000
>Boomer dad wants a commute car instead of gas guzzling truck; buys both, pays insurance on both, almost never uses truck
>Boomer dad wants to get jeep instead of truck; sells truck, buys different, cheaper, more rusted out truck instead of jeep
>Boomer dad gets $8k from insurance for rusted out truck being stolen, asks me to build computer for him. 3 weeks later he no longer has $1k to spend
>Boomer dad uses credit cards to pay off credit cards and is $100k in debt; declares bankruptcy
>Boomer dad has his own small apartment, now wants to sell it to go move to an actual house up north away from his entire family just so he has a yard

The money he has thrown away on stupid bullshit absolutely astounds me. Absolutely no concept of "saving money". He literally retired with NOTHING. All he has is his pension, that's it. Christ if there weren't a government-forced pension he'd have gone penniless in his old age and I comparatively have NOTHING with which to help him. (Of course I don't, you think boomer-dad ever invested any time/effort/money into ensuring success for his kid?)

And he might as well be penniless in his old age anyways because he somehow manages to throw away every scrap of money that ever comes his way. He's soon to inherit $100k and I'm positive that is just going to be wasted on a new truck or something.

>Golf takes all day to play and comes with a hefty price tag.
It can be upwards of $50 a pop just for a fucking public course.

I used to golf a lot as a kid when it was cheap, they'd often give you a deal at the public courses. I'd rarely pay more than $10 and usually I'd bring my ball scooper and recover the cost of the round by scooping balls along the way out of the water. Also there's this fucking meme now where everybody wants to play through if people are waiting, it's like, no, I have 2 people in my group and you have 6, and we're all waiting for the people on the course already.

With the erosion of gentlemanly manners the courses have turned into a version of running the gauntlet but with snark from boomers who "don't have time to wait" despite being 90% retired already. When I was a kid 25 years ago the people were most gracious on the links, it was part of the pleasure of golf. Instead of everybody poking at adult Game Boys when there was a delay, people would chat and have a nice time regardless.

I no longer golf, it's just not worth it. It'd be like trying to keep playing 40K at a shop where they suddenly admitted niggers to play craps too.

A new low-end car costs around $15,000. Most lower-income people buy used cars instead.

A decent house in a decent suburb costs anywhere from $70,000 to $300,000+ depending on which city you're close to. By "decent", I mean a minimum of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a garage in a single family home, and I mean minimal crime.

>take pride in your communities
I try but its impossible to find locally owned companies. When I find a restaurant that is somewhat local I'll drive out of the way for it but fuck globalists, I'm not giving my money to Walnigger that only hires retards and minorites for tax bennies while funneling all my money to somewhere a thousand miles away.

I live in an economically depressed area of the rust belt and an old, probably-in-need-of-repairs farmhouse is $150k~. My fiancee's parents live in a middle class LA neighborhood, on the border of the ghetto, and their house was almost $1 million.

At this point I'm not sure that's true.

This. Get a credit card or take a loan out and build your credit. Keep your job. I work at a fucking doggie daycare and was able to buy a house.

>built in sound systems
You don't listen to the radio?
Or are you talking about a more elaborate sound-system than "radio and some speakers somewhere"?

My car's a 2001 acura I bought for 1k, it doesn't have all the modern gadgetry

I have an 2005 Nissan Sentra and its all basic stuff where electronics are very minimal(electric locks, electric windows, radio, lights, turn signals, dashboard lights and panel lights, interior lights, cruise control, wipers and washers). Very basic, and oil change is very easy where you can do it yourself.

I have family in rural Nebraska who paid $15,000 for their house only a few years ago. It's not an amazing house by any means, but it worked as a fixer upper.

The area I live in starts around $100k and is low-crime with plenty of good jobs both for people with and without college education within a 20 minute drive.

It's not where I live, but look up real estate in Wichita Falls, TX. They're quite far from any major city, but with a nearby Air Force Base they have houses I would call "decent" starting from about $60k. Other small cities like that exist all over the country.

This. You know what my grandparents did for fun? They to church and drove to town to get parts. They were otherwise busy cooking, gardening, knitting, sewing, building their own shit, working, and raising their kids to do anything else.

They also were a lot smarter with their money to spend half of their food money on disgusting fast food. When my grandmother went to a restaurant, she ordered a baked potato with butter, even if it wasn't on the menu because she refused to pay for food she could make better herself.

I hate the debt ridden degenerate consumerist world that baby boomers created.

Applebee's is great and the one American (((restaurant chain))) that wouldn't get completely cucked by some old Italian man and his wife's village restaurant here.

>live in a decent neighborhood in a modern apartment where you don't have to worry about paying for repairs
Before you reply, no, you don't have a decent house working at your doggy daycare.

My brother drives an 2007 Commander and its easy for him to do the oil change but goddamn that car has been giving him probelms.

He shoud've just stuck with Japanese cars because his previous cars he got were Japanese cars(Honda, Lexus, Mitsubishi).

The bigger problem with golf is that a stupid number of courses were built during the 90s and the 00s before the financial crisis. They're mostly shit tier courses in far flung suburbs that were built as mcmansion community amenities. There are never going to be enough golfers to use all of those courses, so the golf industry is going to be in crisis until they do something about that oversupply.

Much like how they include hispanics with whites in the stats, they include gen x and gen y/z in the same stats now, makes it look like gen y/z aka millennials aren't so shit.

Break shit out by age and it looks totally different than if you lump in everybody covered by the SJW definition of 'millennial' of course.
>>
>>129530584
Then don't live in a city? Or deal with living in a ghetto for a few years. Invest in your future instead of living for the present. And even if you buy a shit place, if you're willing to buy some paint and do basic repairs you can fix it up while living there.
>>
>>129530743
The "generations" are a fucking meme, people are born continuously, there are no defined borders.

A much more significant separation of people's ages are the events they've experienced, and I mean large events like recessions and such.

I'm talking about the autistic stuff. I'm fine with speakers. I mean some cars I see on TV are adding BOSE systems and subwoofers and what not. I'm fine with a good set of speakers but if I want them I'll add them myself. I'd rather have the security of knowing I bought a decent set of speakers rather than having a set of factories with a "Bose" sticker slapped on them.

Also if it's an Integra GSR, have fun man. They're arguably the best B-series engine readily found in the US

How much time would that take, and how much would you be making per hour?

Kept my expenses low by living in a 400 dollar shit hole apartment. Both me and my lady worked overtime all the fucking time. Took out a credit card and took out a 3,000 dollar loan. Paid off my car and the loans. Came out with a 770 credit score. Live in Houston where housing is cheap. Bought the house for 130k.
