This is actually quite tragic.
I won't defend the personalities of the people in the picture. Maybe they are scum, I don't know. But they are lower class and looking at the state of them, they seem to be in need of help. With no representation in the mainstream they are themselves forced to march and point out a totally reasonable argument that flooding the country with labour will make things harder for them.
And what does the leftwing mayor do? Mock them.

Pretty much sums up modern politics.

There is no empirical support for the notion that increasing the minimum wage leads to greater unemployment.

Just like there's no empirical support for the notion that increasing the money supply leads to higher inflation.

Or that austerity increases growth.

Its not. If tuition fees were scrapped
1. Less people could go to university(Less spaces)
2.Less people going to university means more unemployed
3.Universities would 'go down hill' not generating as much money
4. Universities would no longer offer subjects like 'gender studies' so also less people could go
5. Would have to write off existing debt
6. A-levels would have to become a lot harder so universities can differentiate between everyone getting 3 A's

Right, so look at it from a poor fag's viewpoint. There are 2 parties you can vote for...

One says they'll help you out, give you a wage increase, a council house, free tutition for your kids, a health service that doesn't leave you dying in the corner for 6 hours and nationalisation of utilities and transport just like your old Da used to talk about.

The other will continue down the road of the past 7 years of wage stagnation, massive wealth accumulation by the top 1%, bills increasing, fares increasing while quality goes down and a health service rushing towards U.S style privatisation.

Neither party will do anything about immigration or Islam or national security...

yeah it is pretty poor form to show derision to the lowest class of people. contempt for others is the worst emotion to have and not one which is helpful for society.

perhaps those people have genuine concerns that they can't express properly and so they latch onto the immigrants out thing because it is the issue that they see might offer some solution to their own problems.

if britain was actually inclusive and egalitarian, it would look for a way to solve all of the problems and not just the problems of those who can get their opinions in broadsheet newspapers.

Firstly, Corbyn and McDonnell strongly suggested there'd be some sort of relief/forgiveness for student debt. Secondly, your brother's short sighted self-centred attitude is basically the opposite of socialist so I don't know why he'd bother calling himself one.

I highly doubt that.

Only a small percentage of university educated people do anything that required a university education.

Even if the fees were high, enough people would be going to university to meet the demand.

Well paying jobs that required a high level of education would compensate to pay off any debt.

Educating everyone is a way to win votes and keep down unemployment statistics
>>
>>129449552
That is the problem.

Paying for the 20% brightest in our country to study at university is worthwhile. Paying for 50% of the population to go out drinking every weekend, be pummeled with leftie propaganda, in order to pass a degree in gender studies at the university of South Bumfuck is damaging.

Labour want the latter.

It's a failure, an absolute failure. You get into that position in the polls with a whole election campaign to go, if you had gone into Downing Street today they would not have been celebrating anything. I think it will be massive disappointment - George Osbourne

If you are first you are first. If you are second you are nothing - Margaret Thatcher

Friendly reminder that Theresa May said "this does not slip" to her cabinet after calling the election in April when the Tories had a 20 point poll lead over Labour, before their majority literally slipped away, resulting in a home hung parliament.

Realistically speaking there's going to have to be some kind of breaking point coming where May gets ousted. I cannot see her lasting more than a few months at most.
Once that happens I think the odds are the Tories will try to run a minority government with the expectation that they can pick up the extra votes they need without an explicit deal in place, to avoid alienating their centrist supporters and stirring up shit in Norn Iron.

If the deal goes ahead then who the fuck knows. SF will be agitated and are a wildcard and its entirely possible that the Tories will lose support AND push through fucking awful policies to appease the DUP. Can't guess any more than that.

I asked a serious question, I'd appreciate a serious answer. What would you do if you were a young Irish Catholic man in the 60s, 70s and 80s?

Majority of Catholics in Northern Ireland support the Union :-)

I'm honestly surprised people in the UK bother growing Wheat, how could farmers possibly compete with the massive near-automated farms in the US/Russia/Australia on such a low-profit-margin crop?

Threadly reminder that the DUP are /pol/-tier. (Stolen from the normies of Facebook)

>1. They want to legalise discrimination against LGBT people

>2. Homophobia is deep-rooted within the party

>3. They are anti-women's rights

>4. They oppose gay marriage

>5. They want to ban begging

>6. They support the death penalty

>7. They are besties with UKIP

>8. They could hold the balance of power within a weakened Tory government led by weak Theresa May

How does someone working in Starbucks with a BA in English literature bring more economic benefits than the same person working in the store without that BA? If they're smart enough, they could become a manager in the time that it would take them to earn the degree before they even started working. It would be a total waste of resources to pay for someone to get a degree and then not even use it for anything.

Obviously giving everyone 1 million pounds would result in inflation.

But printing money to invest infrastructure would not lead to massive inflation unless the productive capacity of the economy is exceeded. In other words, spending is constrained by the number of potential workers.

There is no empirical evidence that increasing the money supply leads to inflation.

pensions in this country are higher than they've ever been. The reason the Tories win elections is that they give the elderly what they want. My grandfather makes 75k/year from his pension, and he never had an excellent job.

There are plenty of people who go on to do jobs that are nothing to do with their degree. Why should tax payers pay for them? We have too many people going to university to pay for everyone.

The real way you improve education is by improving primary and secondary education, but this is far harder than just insisting everyone get a degree, so most governments don't want to touch it.

Some of you lads might be interested to know that Australian's immigration laws are being tightened further.

It used to be that anyone born in the country automatically gained citizenship. Soon, if you're a child of two permanent residents (but not citizens) you don't automatically get citizenship, and will instead at age 10 be tested on how 'integrated' you are to see if you earn the citizenship. You can also have your citizenship revoked following this period allowing for deportation to your parents home country in the case of serious crime.

University should ideally teach you critical skills beyond the scope of the course you specialise in, in-line with those that have created the greatest thinkers, politicians, and innovators of history.

>Self-expression
>A good work ethic
>Research and study skills
>Critical thinking and deductive reasoning

All of these are valuable traits to have for life and, in a broader sense, are important tools for any population to have. Shit politicians only get elected because people are too dumb to know better and let propaganda plus apathy dictate their voting habits.

Yes. I graduated chemical engineering in 2003. I've paid back most of my fees (I earn 6 figures). I support scrapping fees and a debt write-off.
I come from a traditional one-nation conservative family. My father was disgusted by two things in particular over the past two decades: escalating fees and cuts to inheritance tax. One-nation conservatives believe strongly in the principles of meritocracy and equality of opportunity - that's how we could produce a Nelson. Inherited wealth betrays those principles, since it gives rewards to those who haven't earned them - better to have low tax on earnings and high tax on inherited wealth.
Forcing students to pay for an education, that cost those who implemented the policy less than nothing (they got grants), is not only blatantly hypocritical, but is an act of national sabotage. Again, it rewards inherited wealth. It risks locking out brilliant but poor students. It dumbs down our society as a whole.
Higher education needs reform. Students should be PAID to study STEM subjects. Many softer subjects should be accredited at college/higher diploma level. Many should be scrapped.

Reminder that the modern Tory Party is NOT conservative. It's led by Thatcherites (neoliberals). It still includes a minority one-nation Conservative faction. That faction just happens to overlap with the Brexiteer faction (Rees-Mog, Gove, Johnson, Davis, IDS, and so on)
