Excavating gold and riches only makes sense if there was an economic system in pre colonial africa.
Pretty much no country in africa had this. With the exeption of north africa/egypt (arabs) and ethiopia (never colonised).
The rest of africa pretty much lived as hunter-gatherers. With the exeption some larger cities.
So in this sea of economic stagnation, 1 fictional country was still able to trade and have a first world level economy.
