That government - based in the east of the country - had already offered amnesty to Saif al-Islam.
However, he has been sentenced to death in absentia by a court in Tripoli, the west of the country, where control is in the hands of the rival, UN-backed Government of National Accord.

Actually the US doesn't really suport anyone, although the leader of the eastern gov is a naturalized US citizen. The US definitely does not back the western government any longer,
as they were perceived to be responsible for the benghazi debacle. qatar+turkey are the backers, US pretty much stays out of libyan affairs
