This is actually true, I still have family living in Cavan and Monaghan counties. Indeed, our ancestors were Scots that had migrated to Ireland in the early middle ages to fight for the High Kings of Ireland.

I feel I'm one of the lucky Ulsters to actually still have family living in IR who have been always in constant contact with their American side. This is all from my grandfather's side, and each ancestor is traceable / heavily documented by his family which is nice.

My grandmother is French (Acadian) whose relatives moved to Minnesota after Quebec was absorbed into the Canadian Confederation when it was divided from Ontario.

She also has English ancestry, which dates back to colonial period and same with her French ancestors. All have been in North America since the 17th and 18th centuries. I also have a famous ancestor who explored the Kentucky territory.

My dad's side is much more iffy, due to his lineage being from Spanish settlers who helped settle New Mexico when it was still apart of New Spain. The rest on his side is blurred, especially due to the damaging of old Spanish records after conquest by the Mexicans and Americans.
