I personally think that there will be a regular wall to be built, and in the towns/cities on the border, it will be added on top. There's no reason this couldn't be place onto the top of a wall, given that it's thick enough to support it, or simply designed in the areas needed to accommodate the extra solar shit.

>>129356103
Fucking kek, please make this happen.

people think the panels are made of lava and that they can be used to electrify the fence and that it will be impossible to climb because of the way its curved and liberals aren't allowed to hate it because it has solar panels because apparently all liberals are braindead(inb4 >implying they aren't) and are easily persuaded with stupid shit like attaching a solar panel to a stupid, expensive, needlessly complex and utterly ineffective wall makes it totally fine.

Key word "possible."

Given you only have a limited budget to work with, this couldn't ever possibly be funded due to its high initial cost. Maybe in some areas, but I very much doubt this will scale the length of the entire border wall.

I thought that solar panels weren't that good.
They're expensive and in order to actually make money out of it, several several years need to pass.

Think of this for a second. If Solar panels and sun energy were so good, then why aren't we covering everything in solar panels nowadays?

>>129357233
watch the video. It will be primarily in towns and cities along the border, spanning 30-ish miles out from them to take advantage of the energy infrastructure for efficient transportation. It wouldn't span the entire border. The energy it produces would be sold to Mexico to help cover some of the cost, which is better than none of the cost, which would mean we'd have to levy taxes and go through congress and shit

>>
>>129357370

>Think of this for a second. If Solar panels and sun energy were so good, then why aren't we covering everything in solar panels nowadays?

2 reasons.

Number one. Having them on your own house and having a battery are the most efficient ways to get energy for households. Since most countries that can afford panels, or are "earth conscious", are in northern latitudes, this becomes pointless in cold regions (especially in the winter).

The second reason is that coal/nuclear/gas/hydro have a firm grip in the energy market and wont let go.
>>
>>129357572
It will only ever get energy in the winter, idiot.
>>
>>129355750
there is not gonna be solar panels on the wall, i can guarantee you that. just another hype the press passes around.
this is not gonna happen in a thousand years, with any wall ever. its unpractical, inefficient, misguides the whole primary purpose and also makes costs explode unproportionally (not only panels but the extra electric infrastructure and maintenance). also trump personally 'hates' solar, he thinks its a nice but sligjtly retarded tech that doesnt even pay off in the long run.

tl;dr: no.

They are giant metal slabs that get extremely hot. They reflect light at an angle towards a tube that holds liquid salt, or an oil. This then boils water and spins a turbine. To steal that would require them to not only reach the top, but then they'd have to know how to disassemble it, and then they would only have a slab of metal that probably costs a few hundred dollars.

All of this, in addition to them being guarded. Not an argument.

Not much to say other than top shelf solar arrays are around 30% effective where as chinese stuff is anywhere from 6-10% and are made with cheaply refined silica.

The concave array permits a more optimal emr absorbtion irrespective of seasional (earth axial tilt) as opposed to a flat/fixed panel array. Also with a concave array, there is more surface area.

Just don't tell CNN that the battery requirements (the raw materials needed) absolutely fuck up ecosystems.

even large scale solar cant compete with oil/coal/gas/nuclear, it's in its core design very inefficient and has a horrible long amortisation period of 15-20years (an average good one is 3-5years or lower). solar is a nice addition to a diversifed energy structure but cant compete without government subsidies. you also need 100-150x the amount of workers to achieve the same output coal/oil/gas/nuclear gets.
plus that its heavily dependent on weather, you cant react with it to demand spikes and if the weather is shit it produces nothing or gets even completely broken in worst case.

This isn't a Road Runner cartoon, my fellow burger. They don't literally draw a line on the ground and one side is Mexico and the other is the US. It's placed many hundreds of feet inside the US territory. We own both sides.

Typically a light-duty fence runs near the actual border, with warnings that anything in the zone between the marked border and the wall is a patrolled area. Hopefully a kill zone.

...though, yes, putting anything on value facing the beans is asking for a disaster. They can throw rocks and their own feces at it. However-- it forces the liberals to admit it to use that as an argument.

We're still playing chess here, son.

There are many problems with this design, in >regards to the solar element:
the wall will be stationary, meaning it cannot track the sun throughout the day. A curved structure would is better than flat, but still at no point would the panels be optimally positioned, resulting in some quite dramatic efficiency losses.
>In regards to the wall
While a tall enough wall/fence of any kind would be enough to deter amateurs, human traffickers could probably find a way through/around/under/over it. In terms of cost benefit for a wall, the ridiculously inflated price of a solar panel component would make such a wall a bad investment for the actual protection is provides
>In terms of trumps policy towards american protectionism
east/south asia (especially china) is where most solar panels are produced for various reasons, so there are two possibilities, either trump hands American taxpayer money hand over fist to Chinese manufacturers or he spends significantly more money of buying American made solar panels (and also time, as the demand would to so staggeringly large American solar manufacturers, wouldn't be even close to reaching it in a timely fashion.)

tldr:
>will produce little energy compared to other possible investments
>Will be largely ineffective at keeping people out
>cost a shit tonne and that money would be traveling straight out of the american economy

You'd be better off spending money on expanding ice so it can do a better job on tracking down people who overstay visa's.

after all most illegal immigrants come to America legally at first.
>>

How old are you really? This isn't attempted adhominum. Your arguments are extremely juvenile. You really think the wall can't be placed a few feet north of the border thus any Mexican who touches the wall has crossed the border illegally?

He'll Doesn't even have to go that far. By attempting to steal US property they already have granted ICE the justification to arrest them.
>>
>>129359942
first of all, the energy is only used when a Mexican is being zapped

second of all, this is a good method of preventing Mexicans from crossing

Like I said earlier, it is possible for them to place this on top of a foundation that is perhaps 20ft, the total combined structure being 30 - 35ft. The energy efficiency is a bummer, but even if the revenue of, say, 200 miles doesn't cover the cost of the whole wall, it's certainly better than having 0 return on investment.

Otherwise, it is an incredible way to possibly garner support if it ends up having to go through congress since Dems love their green shit. It's a good political tool in that regard.

Could you not just truck through the wall? There's a reason why they were traditionally made of something heavy and hard, not a glorified flimsy wire fence. If there is at least some kind of shorter concrete wall behind it that is just high enough to prevent vehicles from busting through, that might work.

Coming from a brit, makes sense.

I live near the border, ive been through the checkpoints, a big ass wall is exactly what we need. The vast majority dont come in fucking tunnels or boats or planes or overstayed visas. They travel with coyotes who take their money and either fuck them over in the desert, or they throw rugs over the current barbed wire fence and climb it.

You know what they do? Besides helicopters and ice. They drag a fucking tire behind an suv along the fenceline. To smooth the dirt. To look for footprints.

Ice acts after the fact. We need a fucking wall. Doesnt even need to be solar. We need a big fucking wall. Don't believe me? Come on down to old el paso, and we'll see how quickly your tune changes guero.

A thick enough wire fence can actually resist impacts more effectively than a brick wall can.
from Newtonian mechanics:

impluse=force*time=change in momentum

therefore force=(chance in momentum over time)
therefore a fence which flexes during the impact, increasing the time experiences the same energy over a longer period and can resist more effectively.

>>
>>129361603
Tell me, without memes, exactly why solar collectors on a wall would be a bad idea as compared to a regular wall.

Currently I think it's better (in small amounts, so not the ENTIRE border) than a standard wall because:
It will generate some revenue, offsetting costs
It would confuse libtards
It can bypass congress completely
And, climbing over it would be more a hassle than standard brick and barbed wire. + It would be guarded like a normal wall

Do tell.
>>
>>129362148
Except the truck is inserting more energy into the equation constantly and because the wire fence can weaken at many different small points, its integrity will lessen as it incurs more wire breaks and damage. Hell, those panels are going to be sitting on the fence posts which if destroyed will do further damage to the fence itself as it crashes down and pulls the wires with it.

With a concrete wall you need a whole lot more mass to stop a truck going at the same speed, but simple reinforced concrete without silly solar panels on top is a lot cheaper anyway so you can make it thick enough to just crush the truck trying to ram through (not even the border hoppers are that stupid to try though).

regardless of what you think, the current plan seems to be making the entire wall out of panels, and thats what im against.

second, i legitimately don't think the wall will have that much output, certainly not enough to help cover the cost of the wall

I also don't believe that simply putting solar panels on something is enough to 'confuse liberals' as if they were fucking scooby doo villains, let alone will it help 'bypass congress'

ill give it to you that the currently proposed design will certainly be harder to climb over but if YOU were trying to escape your hellhole of a country don't you think you'd be able to work out a way of getting over a few inclines?

everything this wall hopes to accomplish could be done simply by increasing the amount of border patrols we had. we don't need an Apple iWall with laser beams, death fields and cyborg dogs, which is what trump is going to continue to propose because it gets idiots excited.

That's a pretty based Mexican judge actually. If the girl is shit in bed it is not fair that you need to do jail time for it.
>>
>>129364786
I didn't imply that it's a literal confusion - they won't be frothing at the mouth, unable to function anymore, but they do always, in fact, want more alternative energies, and this provides exactly that, in addition to the protection that a wall provides, making it a win win win. If you watched the video, it would be maybe only a few hundred miles of panels at the top, which is better than nothing. This provides a source of income that generates a small amount, but it's something that brick and wire cannot do.

Next, I acknowledge that illegals will try to find another way, but that's what we want - their primary way of entering is literally walking through. Wall happens. Now, they have to rely on tunnels that can take forever to make, which can still be detected and destroyed. This would already lessen the amount of illegals coming through, and a solar collector would be extremely inconvenient to climb over because of heat during the day, and extra patrols at night. If they were dedicated to making a true wall, it would only make sense to have extensive surface detection.

Finally, I understand that more patrols is better, but you are overstating the complexity of this project. It's simply a wall with solar collectors near towns and cities, with regular wall for the rest. ICE will obviously get more funding to compensate, as they have already.

You need to convert that thermal energy with mechanical systems that must be maintained. Solar really only needs labor invested when the panel as degraded or a mixirat tries to chew through the wires sneaking into the republic.

Solar makes sense. It can power all the sensors we attach to the border with decentralized distribution. You can disconnect a single section and it won't propagate along the fence.

As any conductor is also an antenna this entire fence can double as a radar system.

Rock climbers see this and laugh. You climb the mesh to get on the solar. Glass is great for adhesion with rubber so you can just run up the panel grab the top of the fence and climb down the mesh on the other side.

You need a steel plate skirt across the top of the lower section that spans 3 feet so no one can grab the edge of the solar section by climbing to it.

Then you need to curve the leading edge of the solar downwards so you can't maintain a grip of you manage to reach the edge. That edge should be made of a low friction material.

Realistically you just back a trick up to the fence or lean a ladder against it. Once you're up on the panels there is nothing stopping you from getting over it. You need to run steel slats spaced 4 inches apart across the arc of the panels. These slats need to be electrified.
