The cost on differnt kits ranges, you can make your own, they're pretty cheap to buy, depending on the size

Containers are secure, they're just acrylic plastic, not much needed to contain some ants.

Cost to maintain virtually none. The ants just eat the gel, its the same stuff they used went they sent ants to space, it's a self contained unit, they eat and live on the gel dirt, cost and maintaince really low / basically none

You say 80% of ants are idle.

But not all work is "moving stuff back and forth." I'm sure the actual number of "idle" ants is far less.

Animals act by instinct, but they will always act.

Human beings have free will, and thus they are the only animal that can set aside natural instinct and be truly "idle" or lazy.

It's a feminist matriarchal paradise anon, not communism.
Queen is a breeder, all workers and soldiers are sterile females. Males live long enough to knock a bitch up.

This is what every feminist wants, a world where males are used as sperm donors, all other women are sterile and they sit at the top. If feminism ever progresses far enough this is what will happen.

Not only do they have a queen, they often have complex hierarchical systems which result in different classes within a colony.

Ants have many different roles. Some remove waste, some farm spores and aphids, some dig or repair tunnels, some protect, some hunt, some go on reconnaissance etc.

All ants are not equal.

Not to mention they will go to war with other colonies, especially those that are different to their own.

Why didn't nature gave us a way to cooperate and govern ourselves like ants ?

Is the future of man a breed of people that agree on ideology and how they should govern themselves ?

Could it be that ideologies are natures attempts at further natural selection in human specie ? That the winning ideology will result in a breed of men that accept it automatically/unconsciously like ants are ruled and obey ?

I mean, lots of ideologies would require everybody to think the same way so it works. Maybe politics is just a thing of current humanity and will no longer be relevant once one ideology has definitely one and everybody thinks its the best. For example communism, it requires purges of dissidence so it could end up in the anarchist utopia of communism, with people self governing with no form of centralized power, just by natural, instinctive collaboration like ants.

Is politics a way for nature to further evolution of the specie ? By politics I mean big ideological axis, not reforms/laws or other negligible things.

You have 2 hours.

Ants, bees, etc work on basic input output to stimuli. They respond to certain stimuli with pheromones that in turn recruit their sisters for that task, making the recruit pheromone stronger; as the work finishes and the individual is no longer required, they stop producing the pheromone and do whatever is needed more. You can see bees grouping like this; they all stick their abdomens in the air to fan a "gather" pheromone (Nasanov pheromone). Say two bees are doing it in different locations. One bee randomly picks one of the gather locations and begins fanning Nasanov as well. The next bee smells the command twice as strong from that direction, and goes there. If the groups are larger, you may have 4 bees here gathering and 8 bees somewhere else, and the 4 join the 8.

It's basically a p2p command structure. No one is in charge and no one understands how the whole thing works top to bottom, but every unit has a few hundred or thousand CONDITION -> RESPONSE rules where RESPONSE creates a CONDITION. It's fucking beautiful, I sit by my hives and watch them for hours.

Also here's an interesting RadioLab with an ant specialist discussing the traits in ants, and that also apparently humans kind of do this stuff:

>>
>>129347595
That is fucking awesome, thanks for the info anon. The reason I was kind of surprised is because if say, you flick an ant, they will survive the flick but lose their trail and panic. They start wandering aimlessly in double time. I guess it's different if you do this to a bunch of ants though.

Beekeeper here.

Haploid reproduction strategy; I'll discuss bees here but ants are closely related. Each drone (male) has half a set of chromosomes and millions of genetically identical sperm. Queens go on mating flights and mate with a number of drones (who die on mating, their dick torn out like a female bee's stinger). The drones are basically a dick extension of the queen.

So, queen lays eggs which like all animal's unfertilized eggs are half a set of her chromosones. Left unfertilized it becomes a mindless male designed to breed with another queen, but generally a fertilized queen drops a stored sperm on the egg as she lays it, creating a genetically complete female. Because the sperm from a single father are completely genetically identical, the sisters of that father share 75% of their genes (whereas in most animals like us, it's 50% from mum and 50% from pop). They're actually more related to their sisters than to the queen that birthed them. They're more related than most animal species. They work for the good of the collective and not themselves, but as they do not breed they don't need to be concerned with individual genetics. Their genes will be passed on when one of their sisters is turned into a virgin queen who takes over the hive (old queen leaves and takes half the workers, it's how the superorganism of the colony reproduces).

If humans weren't so caught up in having to reproduce/mate/form relationships for pairbonding and are all super genetically close, we would be more altruistic too. Obviously the solution is centralized breeding facilities using advanced machines that select for the best genes, with prepubescent sterilization of the population so we focus on work and not waste time with breeding instincts.

>>129347911
The RadioLab podcast goes into detail on how their trails work, it's basically math+chemistry+rules=hivemind.

>>
I drive bus.
>>
>>129345242
They need eggs to make a new queen, what you'd do is buy a queen with some ants to help get started.

With bees you can split existing beehive, the queenless ones will make a queen from an egg or without an egg start freaking out (eventually workers lay if you let it go too long and the colony is fucked). You do this if you buy a good queen and need to introduce her to a hive.

Oh /pol/, how you'd love the analogy of the Africanized honeybee, the race of bee that has faster flying drones to outrace European drones to breed with European queens. "Killer bee" talk is media overhyped but they are extremely violent compared to other honeybees. That's because in Africa they didn't keep bees proper (besides Kenya), they would instead just smash-n-grab beehives for honey. Thousands of years of that and bees in Africa evolved to have 6 times the number of bees on guard duty and a much larger aggro/chase range.

Currently they are racemixing with European bees and it's kind of chilling their genetics out, there are programs to eugenics a bee that has the best of African and European genes. AHB produce more honey and survive more disease, Euro bees are passive and easy to work.

Oh there are so many tons of good sites about honeybees. Most fun one I can suggest, if you like Lovecraft, is the book by the guy who basically invented the "stacking white boxes with movable frames" modern beehive. I mention Lovecraft because it's got that quaint 1850-scientific style of writing, including shittalking his contemporaries in the apiarist community. Just replace the cosmic horror with "God made bees to serve man b/c God is perfect" because dude was a pastor but it's a fascinating read.

http://www.thebeeyard.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/The.Hive_.And_.The_.Honey_.Bee_.Langstroth.1853.pdf

Some of the info is out of date of course, we've learned more since then. Tons of blogs and sites with modern bee data, here's a random one:
https://www.perfectbee.com/learn-about-bees/the-science-of-bees/honey-bees-reproduce/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD62suykD6o
http://scientificbeekeeping.com/ is an excellent site but for the non-beekeeper it can get very technical in some spots.

Only physical book I have is The Beekeeper's Handbook. I've been reading a shortish PDF called At The Hive Entrance recently; it explains the different actions you can observe from outside your hive, to get a vibe of what's going on inside it.

1) Yes, in my US State you do need a license but it's just 10 bucks (more like a registration). I look at my bees daily.
2) It takes knowledge but it's very realistic, look into Michael Bush, I think he's one of the best beekeepers in terms of techniques and strategy and he's a cannuk.

I am going to livestream some beekeeping later today, there's a /beekeeping general/ on /an/.

Richard Dawkins provides several examples of how cunning parasites can be, and how easy it is to be fooled. The sophistication of some ant species makes the cuckoo look like a novice. He describes a parasitic ant which invades a neighbouring colony, seeks out its queen, climbs on top of it and methodically gnaws off its head. Having usurped the position at the top of this social hierarchy, the alien queen produces eggs which are tended by the invaded colonies’ workers, and new queens then go off to invade other colonies.

Even this strategy has been improved upon by another ant species. To quote The Selfish Gene, p. 252 (Dawkins is here referring to the founder of sociobiology, Edward Wilson):

‘But sawing off heads is a bit of a chore. Parasites are not accustomed to exerting themselves if they can coerce a stand-in. My favourite character in Wilson’s The Insect Societies is Monomorium santschii. This species, over evolutionary time, has lost its worker caste altogether. The host workers do everything for their parasites, even the most terrible task of all. At the behest of the invading parasite queen, they actually perform the deed of murdering their own mother. The usurper doesn’t need to use her jaws. She uses mind-control. How she does it is a mystery; she probably employs a chemical, for ant nervous systems are generally highly attuned to them. If her weapon is indeed chemical, then it is as insidious a drug as any known to science. For think what it accomplishes. It floods the brain of the worker ant, grabs the reins of her muscles, woos her from deeply ingrained duties and turns her against her own mother. For ants, matricide is an act of special genetic madness and formidable indeed must be the drug that drives them to it. In the world of the extended phenotype, ask not how an animal’s behaviour benefits its genes; ask instead whose genes it is benefiting.’

Jews employ the same strategy as Monomorium santchii by their control of the media. For the facts about the enormous Jewish influence in television, films, newspaper publishing etc. in America see the National Vanguard publication Who Rules America?, in Britain the BNP publication The Mind-Benders.

Using this control they define fashions and promote mores which derogate those who seek to preserve Occidental culture. The policy, specifically, is to stigmatize potential or actual leaders (of thought or action) and manipulate others to attack them.

Loss of Jewish Worker Caste

Note that the Jews lost their peasantry (worker caste) around 1,000 AD. This is documented by Shahak in Jewish History, Jewish Religion, pp. 52-53 and is clearly evident today. Shahak is unable to explain how this change in Jewish social structure came about, but it is hypothesized that the evolution of the following traits is involved:

Love of being above someone (e.g. gloating);
Abhorrence of being looked down upon.

Jews appear to be capable of getting themselves appointed to government positions, elected onto academic editorial committees etc., without any formal role or qualifications.

Is it pure coincidence that the most vocal opponents of sociobiology – Richard Lewontin, Stephen Gould, Steven Rose and Leon Kamin – were Jews? Thomas Jackson reviewing Defenders of the Truth in American Renaissance 11/9 (Sept. 2000).

One hive is superceduring their queen right now and I want to see if this other hive is queenright, as I suspect they are not. If they aren't, I'll transfer the queen cells from the superceduring hive, and if I have enough bees do a split into a new spare hive as well.
