It won't be between nations or between religions or even terrorism, here's how modern wars will trully start:

If there is a conflict and if china comes out as winner, there will naturally annexation of the parts china "won". or at least annexation of areas they are interested in. Your scenario is too positive because it distinguishes between a good and bad side. In reality, there will be a factional schism somewhere in the hierarchy where the stakes are high enough to warrant breaking cover and to use Mafia terminology "going to the mattresses".
