Not OP but it varies greatly depending on health before transplant, age, activity afterwards, etc. If OP gets serious about cardiovascular exercise and hits 180 minutes a week and increases his V02max his life expectancy increases with it. I think the 5 year average for people with lung transplants was ~50% dead, a whole lot of this is attributed to mostly older-super sick people needing them but if you get rejection and the doctors can't manage it properly you die, end of story, regardless of how long ago the transplant was.

I know a lot of you don't care but for the ones who do, I just got my lung and heart transplant, they took the breathing tube out yesterday. I'm doing fine and the doctors said my surgery couldn't have been more perfect. I'm in rehab now learning to walk again. It's been hell, the doctor even told me when I was on life support if I want to live, warning me recovery would be hell which it was. But I'm part the bad parts now I just need to walk and I can leave. I've been getting so high on pain meds they're giving me that I haven't had time to report back, apparently while I was high I flipped off the nurses and called them whores.

I have a BF who had a BLT from CF and he went back to his IT job 3 months.
How long were you on a transplant list? He was only on transplant list for 11 days, basically was doing fine, had a random pneumothorax that caused a collapsed lung. ER stuck him on a vent that caused additional problems. After he was moved from shitty ER hospital to a lung specialty hospital they had him walking around and shit while intubated... Really goes to show the difference between a regular hospital and a top tier lung transplant center.

If you didn't have insurance and were billed directly by a hospital for such a procedure they would send you a series of bills for over 1.25 million dollars, though I've heard from the transplant centers that they will work with you and only take 500,000 up front.

Holy fuck, that was pulmonary hypertension, right OP? The doctors said for a couple of years that I had it. Came in complaining of symptoms, all tests pointed towards it. So they gradually bumped up the testing, did an echo of my heart, and the expert there who never gets shit wrong said it was pulmonary hypertension 100%. Had one more test to go, they finally lined it up for me, stuck the tube into my heart and "derp nope one of your valves is just weird and makes it look like pulmonary hypertension". Took an MRI and they think it's alright.

Man before they finally stuck the tube in to check, I asked them what's the chance I don't have it... They gave me the whole "I'm sorry kiddo, you're fucked" deal. Thought I was going to end up like you did for ages man.

Glad you're alright, I really hope the heart and lungs hold up mate. How long should they last?
