Speaking architecture, can we take a moment to laugh at China? They're building hundreds of to-scale, shitty replicas of iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, Statue of Liberty, Leaning Tower of Pisa and so on in literal fucking ghost cities where nobody even lives in a shitty attempt to make up for their destroyed culture. >His opponents argued in turn that such a rebuilding would be read as a deliberate attempt to conceal and forget the atrocities of the war and the Holocaust. The German people, so the argument went, had forfeited their rights to associate themselves with the Enlightenment for which Goethe and his contemporaries stood, and would have to start completely from scratch; Germany could and should not simply recreate an image that had been so scarred by the country’s actions. Others countered with the argument that these buildings were integral parts of Germany’s heritage, and that for all the horror and misery the First and Second World Wars had caused, 1,000 years of German history could not be reduced to the years 1914–18 and 1939–45.

As you can see, the building was continuously growing throughout the centuries, mixing different traditional styles together. This is why the building was special not just for Germany, but for Europe too. And despite all this, the Reds demolished it.

question for Brits, older New England homes are proportionally very similar to famous Tudor-era construction, but they never expose their timber-framing, they're covered in clapboard siding. At least no remaining examples. This could be a climatic adaption, but I don't know know what comparable 17th century structures in Norfolk look like.

I've grown up around historic preservation and most discerning Americans would be appalled at the amount of stuff we've torn down or let decay. The Victorian era absolutely destroyed a good segment of our colonial-era structures, some of which haven't even been properly recorded. Obviously these were mostly houses, shops, and some churches and wouldn't be amazing compared to the castles being posted but it was still ours, and now it's gone forever
>>129262402
