But midway through my junior year I said screw this debt and 'maybe' job prospects, left college and took up HVAC. I make 70k a year without trying and could do 100k if I wanted.

EVERYONE needs trades. Everyone needs their air conditioning, their furnace to run, their electricity, their plumbing and their auto mechanics. And at 2pm on a roasting hot sunday afternoon in august, their air conditioner will fail, and they will pay whatever I ask. Its $200 for me to just show up in their driveway on weekend emergencies. Because tradespeople are in short supply. And robots are never going to be able to drive to your house, wade through your kids and cats to get to your damp basement, down your steep steps, and behind your christmas decorations to your furnace and figure out why its coming on but you aren't getting heat.

Nobody needs you, oh college degree holder. There are a million of you sitting around who cant find jobs in their degrees and have to struggle by working at a starbucks, sending out resumes, and sweating their student loans. I'm went the college route and became a mechanical engineer, but my lab techs(most of whom didn't go to a 4 year institution) do much better money wise than most people with buisiness or psych or liberal arts degrees. Their pay/benefits is on par with teachers in our state (Michigan).

I went to a trade school and got welding certification because my grandpa pressured me to do it. He kept telling me that you don't do what you love for a living you find what people need then do that.
i figured since it was 6K I'd have it payed off in a few months of work and I'd always have it to fall back on later.
I landed my first job at a metal fabrication shop that specialized in odd shit that nobody could get anywhere else, things like 12mm or larger diameter machine shafts and cast iron machining. After only two years i was already making more per hour then all of my college friends. two years after that most of them are working for me to pay off their college loans. Mean while I'm the only one who owns a home and has retirement fund.
The best part is i do nothing with my free time and money but buy stupid shit like PC parts and watch porn after work all day.

I dont know what its like in burgerland but it does here. 4 years, each year youre allowed 8 weeks to complete the course and its pretty basic. If you can do math and understand basic physics youll fly through it. I have yet to spend more then 4 weeks finishing the course. One thing I would recommend though is to find a reason to enjoy it, think of a way you can use your training to complete a task that you actually want to see through. If you just jump in and take whatever comes you may end up pulling lumex through new houses for a while and that shit is brain numbing once you get the hang of it. I got a good opportunity starting off with a crane tech who taught me controls, I got to climb stupid high cranes and learn all the niche stuff nobody thinks of needing to know but lowkey makes the world go round. Now im in automation and programming, huge opportunity if you have drive. You can do it man, the industry needs young blood whos passionate about learning and growing.
