>At a glance
Apparently Theresa May has no intention of resigning - working to form a govt based on being largest party in seats and votes, meaning some people will be tricked into thinking they are getting a hard brexit while still getting 300k+ migration per year
DUP already outlining a soft brexit as part of the terms for propping up an enfeebled Tory party
SNP getting blown the fuck out
Exit poll proving to be correct so far
Nigel Farage will probably go back into politics.
Conservatives might just about win it.
Conservatives are just as bad as Labour

>Why did it happen?
The number of UKIP voters going to Labour was underestimated.
They ran a very insincere campaign.
U-turns on social issues undermined her authority.
People fell victim to the soft brexit meme.
Manifesto negatively impacted Tory voting core.

Amazing. What a misfire. Total boondoggle for the Conservatives.

I never bought into the BS that Corbyn was unelectable. People signed up in droves to vote for him in the Labour leadership. He was exciting non-voters. He was filling stadiums of people. What he did was challenge the status quo and the status quo in its bubble refused to believe he would be electable.

Well, I just joined the Conservatives. Not because I support them, but because I am going to go there and tell them how retarded they are for allowing this to happen. I may not have been pleased with consensus politics, but I at least felt as though the country wasn't going to fully turn into a train wreck. That Labour result however shows that the current Tory party are inept. If anything, I see this as the time to start trying to influence them, whilst I don't think they will make that more right wing shift, they're going to have to start listening a bit more if they want to take back a majority. Either way, I refuse to sit on my hands and do nothing anymore.
>>

Not really lad he's winged a minority off a very fucked up Tory opposition mainly in what were always labour heartlands. When you think that labour was taking 60-70% vote shares in the past two decades it's nothing great, it's almost the minimum you'd expect after the slating they got last election from the SNP and the Cons. Sure he's achieved that minimum with a very different manifesto and party alignment but by nature of two party states it's not remarkable.

I think there's never been a real appetite for a 2nd referendum and Brexit being used as a basis always came across as a bit of a stretch. Certainly nothing like to the extent the SNP were trying to present.

The main argument used against themthat they ought to be paying more attention to utilising the devolved powers they have in terms of actual government than harping on about independence has a decent level of support.

Honestly, that is the part I'm trying to wrestle with. It took an economic collapse to show those policies were bad before, but I would rather we avoid going down that route. What makes it worse for me is that I live in Liverpool. Though I think that I will use this as an opportunity to see if I can't get more of an understanding of what people want exactly. It's not as if my area was in any doubt, but who knows, maybe I can scrape together something better than "I want free stuff" or "My father voted Labour and his father before him". As I said, I refuse to sit this all out now. I nearly swallowed the blackpill last night but I refuse to.

West Derby, well that why I hope there willing to listen, because otherwise they may not even be able get lose to a majority in the next election. I think it's also important for me to join as Brexit is under threat now and it could be the case that they will backslide now thinking that it will in them back seats. Whilst that assessment wouldn't be wrong, doesn't mean that back sliding on Brexit is good for the country. A successful hard Brexit (which I think is the most obvious choice) would be a much better vote winner. Though that would mean them having to try, and I'm sure they're were plenty of people in the party who thought they could half-arse it.

>>129177951

May won't have many friends and in-fighting amongst the Tories will happen immediately even if they aren't going to admit it to the media.

For Brexit we don't have a stable enough government to be certain of anything concerning negotiations anymore so who can fucking say.

Fractured party leadership isn't good for the country and especially not the economy. We're probably looking at the Tories running the country into the ground and then people knee-jerk voting Labour next election to be almost exactly as incompetent.

The problem for the SNP was a voter wanting to remain in the EU doesn't translate into wanting to remain in the EU at the expense of remaining in the UK. They still tried to make the argument.

With NI I suppose maintaining a fluid border with the Republic will the sticking point.

Well the DUP and Tories are both right wing by british standards so there's less conflict on issues. So unlike libdem/tory it's a coalition that can actually work. British guy living in France here and I have to say that I find this even more depressing than the result of "our" elections in May and I nearly topped myself over that one.
As far as I can make out, this is basically a rescinding of Brexit, which is the only thing my nation has done, for many years, that has made me proud of it.
The only thing that held Corbyn back, till now, from coming out as a full-on globalist (yeah yeah, the "workers of the world unite" / "Socialist International" version, makes not one fuck of a difference, it's globalism just as much as Bilderberg or the IMF) was the assumption that the majority of Labour voters in about 100 constituencies were for Brexit. That assumption seems doubtful now. It really looks as though, with the support of a huge demographic of 18-25-yr-old chav plebs whose grandparents scraped a living collecting horse-turds and who now all "wanner goter ewni" - Jesus fuck, what must British universities be like these days? It seems all it needs to get into them is being able to write your name with the help of a spell-check software and a social worker - Corbyn's Labour Party can now become at least a power-broker and at most even win, in the near future, a majority.
Don't get me wrong, May was pitiful. But it looked like she was going to do ONE THING: steer through some sort of Brexit.
That is fucked now. The vapid, wide-eyed, septum-pierced, Facebook-reading ravers who lost last June have won this June. God help us all.

Whatever way you slice it, lads, the wind is turning left. UKIP lost abysmal numbers of votes, many of them to Labour, and the conservatives have as weak a position now as they did in 2010.

Aye, Tories in Scotland is a giant shock. Arguably all down to the Scottish conservative leader. If they hadn't won the seats there, they would have lost this election out and out.

I mean, they still lost, but yeah,
>>
>>129179250
Nigga. Little has changed.

The Tories didn't have enough to win a majority in 2010. In 2015 they got a surprise win because UKIP took a lot of Labour votes. Now that people see UKIP as irrelevant given that we already had the referendum, those voters flocked back to Labour.

Corbyn also got a big youth turnout and his grassroots organising was top notch.

It's not a big leftward swing. If the Tories actually bothered to campaign at all and explain their position to voters, then they would easily have got a majority.
>>
>>129178734
It really was a shambles.
>>
UkIP votes went con, not that their .9% helped much
>>
>>129179820

The tories did campaign, but their campaigning was abysmal.
As for whether anything has changed, have you seen the popular vote? 42.5% (tories) to 40% (labour). I remind you that Blair got 43.2% which gave him a seat win of 253. In the end, the Tories have kept on by doing what they do best: Maintaining an extremely tactical campaign to fight marginal Tory seats (like hastings) back down. It didn't work in all of England, but it worked for the most part.

Fact of the matter is, most of england saw seat swings to Labour, whether or not they won seats. This IS a change, in the popular outlook.

DUP don't get to decide that, EU does.
>>
Did the terror attacks have a negative or positive impact on Tory popular vote?
>>
>>129180585
Pretty much.

Labour has seen its popular voteshare rice by 9.5% compared to 5.5% to the Tories. I suspect this will give Labour a lot more time to plan for the next GE more tactically.

>>129180662

Negotiations decide that and that is a bi-partisan agreement, not just the EU's decision. Both parties have to agree on terms for those terms to be met. If the DUP have asked for concessions to be made, they can keep a gun to her head by opting out of the government if she fails to meet them and causing her to either have to find a new ally (which would be close to impossible) or the progressive alliance forms a minority government by outnumbering.
>>
>>129180817
Overall voteshare for the tories went up by 5.5%, so it still was a rise, but it's hard to say whether it would have been more or less without the attack, given that the rise was almost certainly off the back of UKIP's losses.
