He is using his personal experience to try to justify his views. However, personal experiences alone don't necessarily tell the whole story.

For example, I lived in Brazil most of my life and I've never been mugged. I also know lots of nonwhites who are good people. Still, this does not change the fact that Brazil is overall a violent place and nonwhites are overrepresented in crime.

I spent the last 5 years living in the center of one of America's biggest cities.
I moved into the apartment because it had an exceptional reputation despite its location. It was managed by a white man.

Nah not buying it. If he's not lying, then he's probably living in some neighborhood going through heavy gentrification like the area near Nostrand Ave in Brooklyn, which makes it misleading. In 15 years time that place will be mostly white hipsters from the high rent.

I made this mistake too, once. His initial reaction to those living conditions was correct. His reptile brain was panicking him and telling him he was in danger, and it was correct. He had to train himself to live with the constant fear in the back of his mind. He let his guard down, and maybe he'll get out before something terrible happens, or maybe the low time preference nigger wandering around in the woods at 3 am decided tonight was the night he was gonna try some PCP and snap his neck. You just never know. Once you get out of that situation, you cannot imagine the relief you feel and will kick yourself the rest of your life because you did that to yourself to save a hundred bucks a month on rent.
