The 58.000 deathtoll that the documentary claims is based on the work of David Hoggins 'The Forced War'. This book seems to be pseudo-history at best. With claims suchs as that the Reich Protectorate of Bohemia-Moravia was a generous German move to offer autonomy to the Czechs. Hoggins bases himself mostly on the pamphlet "Polish Atrocities Against the German Minority in Poland" published in 1940 (after annexation of Poland), a literal piece of Nazi propaganda taken at face value.

No other (semi-)scientific sources can be found that get anywhere near the 58.000 deaths in pre-war Poland. Another good illustration: The population of Danzig on the eve of WW2 was about 367,000, so 58,000 would have represented a huge proportion of the population (~15.8%) - not something that could easily have been hidden.

If you are an American, you have had mandatory High School watching of Shindler's list in your History class. If you can deprogram from that and, like I said, watch this video with an open mind, you can start to see things from the other side a bit.
