Solar can be pretty economical if and only if they are placed in a desert area with high solar radiation. Everywhere else they are shit.

So honestly the border isn't a bad place for solar, given that the land isn't going to be used for anything else. Yes, nuclear is the only long-term solution, but in this particular case solar isn't bad.

Its a great idea, the geographic location are varying between excellent and great and its basically one of the best areas in the US. And you are all ready paying for the framework + cabling (cameras and surveillance systems) anyway so that's no issue.

And panels aren't really that expensive per square feet compared to other materials anyway so there is that.

Actually, you could make a cooling pipe across the wall for a nuclear reactor. Not to mention that solar is too sensitive to be used as a wall, and would have to be even somewhat effective, you'd have to make the wall able to move the panels.
