Schools that aren't ran or receive huge kickbacks from government (federally backed student loans are a massive subsidy only to the schools that accept them the students don't get shit except debt they probably cannot afford and ever increasing tuition prices) are no where near as bad and homeschooling programs are more prevalent than ever thanks to the internet. Of course most don't do this because you have to pay for public school regardless if you're actually using it and not everyone can afford both private school (or no working to homeschool) and the taxes.

People too often rule out private schools for the cost though, even full-ride scholarships aren't incredibly uncommon. It won't be something everyone can do, but if a student is fairly impressive at least in much of the US there'll probably be a private school in the area willing to help out with tuition to bring them on board.

Math is very very basic all you need to teach kids is the basic systems of math and give them things to train those basic skills.
Think of learning an instrument vs learning a few songs

To learn an instrument all you need to know is how to play all the base chords and scales and with nothing but practice you can play any song. But if you ask someone who just learns songs by notes to play a few scales they'll took at you like you have three heads.
Same with math you teach what all the various symbols do and how they work and then test that they are understanding it by providing problems to solve.
