Continuing, as I walked away I took a shot of California Street. Down that way almost a mile is a lot of death and violence brought on by drug turf wars and petty rivalries between two gangs. Here it's peaceful, but sadly it doesn't last that way the farther you go.

After looking down a two way street to death, I observed a relic of this area's past. Here is one side of the Chicago river canal with a vantage point from a fixed bridge. Long ago it was plagued by gang violence, something now foreign to the area. Still, members will tag regardless to maintain a reputation despite having virtually no presence there. Pictured is La Raza graffiti, a violent drug gang.

On the other side of the river is one of Chicago's best public high schools, Lane Tech. Pictured here is an eerie shot of the entrance to a sports area. Blue lights glow in a domineering fashion and are joined with the soft yet ever present hue from the moon. Busy by day, empty and soulless by night.

Still on Lane campus, I actually happened to pass a Robert parked on my side of the street. I considered asking permission to photograph, but he looked busy and I did not want to disturb him. Lane's own past is fascinating, originally it was a trade school for boys, and continued to be so until 1971, when it became coed to allow women to enter technical trade studies. While it's currently known for being picky bout who it admits, it wasn't always that way. That change came in the 1950s, when they cut out remedial classes and started only accepting highly killed students to be certain we didn't lose to the Soviets in education.

Of course, because it's CPD, Lane wasn't all high education and sticking it to the Soviets like it could've been. For a time during the 70s and 80s, ruthless gangs like the Gaylords would recruit boys there and often fought with rival factions. Today it remains a mostly peaceful place while the students are blissfully unaware of the dangers that once lurked their halls. In my journey home, this stands as the last photo of Lane, bidding the giant farewell from its Western street view.

Continuing down Addison, I was nearing the turning point where I would leave the beautiful Roscoe Village area. While not historically remarkable, you would find many a Robert Parked on side street corners strongly resembling these running reports for crimes like theft, property damage, hit and run, and so on. This sight is as familiar to me as it is to them.

By now I've reached the corner of Addison and Damen, my turning point. A man and his daughter were happily crossing the street with ice cream from probably a late night shopping spree, and some English people who were fresh from a house party emerged from an alley chatting away enthusiastically on their way to who knows. To my left is a liquor store that sells fine cigars, and to the right a cleaners. It's hard to believe that some decades ago, just two or three blocks south (right of the sign) was a very gritty gang war between the Simon City Royals and Hamlin Park Insane Deuces, with multiple losses suffered on both sides.

While I should've turned, I didn't. I knew about Male Black's graffiti on the next block so I had to show you. Gang affiliation unknown to me, this image was taken in a deserted alley behind a bar and cleaners. I would have lingered to take some other shots, but I heard strange shuffling and noises coming from a part of the alley close to me, so I took this and left. Can't be too carful even here, after all.

After this I rounded the way I came back onto the main block, and took a snapshot of the entrance to the brownline L station and bus stop. Currently closed but open by 5:00 AM, this train goes to Downtown and even Albany Park on the North West Side. It's almost always safe save for the retarded drunks who stop by, though I often pity the depressed homeless man trying to survive like the rest of people struggling here.

Finally come to an end of my snapshot journey. It was time for me to get off Addison head more North and return home. However, I noticed no one cleaned off Male Black's marking on a clothing donation box. While almost exclusively safe in Northcenter, Male Black still knows how to ruin it.

I'm glad to man, despite all the crap you hear on that radio, there's still wonder, mystery, and beauty to be found here. The CPD subculture here is also incredibly friendly especially for /pol/ and generates great OC so it's nice to know I can add to the atmosphere of it. Next time though I'll go somewhere shittier like the deeper parts of uptown or the bridge in Lincoln Park, or the housing in tue southern part of Northcenter, or a really scary apartment building on Ogden so you Roberts get a better view of some of the actual garbage that stews on the streets.
