I no longer know how to feel. I figured most my age (late 20s) were making at least $40k on average, assuming they have a degree. I'm taking low pay to keep more capital in my business for growth. Still feel like a failure. After seeing this, maybe not.

No I have a mechanical engineering degree from GATech and near the top of my class. I'm 31 now and have applied to over 1000s of entry level jobs, even offerign to work for free in exchange for experience. Haven't had so much as one interview. The job I have now was through pure luck and I do CAD/CAM work for $7.25 an hour for a small mom and pop. My sister (a C party student) went to GATech too, but in Industrial Engineering (a dumber version of mech engneering) and she got a job right away without even applying and STILL companies are after her and her "talents." She's 26 and makes 100k+ a year already. I'm about 100x the engineer she is and she knows it and constantly calls me for technical advice. I wasted my youth studying like a retard, while everyone else is partying and having fun, thinking it would get me somewhere. It didn't and everyday I feel like giving up and just going off and dying in a ditch.

Friend of mine went into Chemical Engineering. Dude is a straight up genius. Advanced math since we were kids. Asian like work and study ethic. He needed a CO-OP to finish off his degree requirements. Went to several events, talked to businesses across three states, even had a referral from a college buddy who graduated earlier who works for a Fortune 100 chemical company. Aced the interview, talked up the rep, and they still choose the minority female C student. All other offers were slave contracts for companies looking for cheap labor. Minimum wage for 50 hour work weeks. Don't hire after co-op is over.

Long story short he has to drive 4 hours daily to a coal plant in Michigan that pays well and whose parent company has ties to the auto and manufacturing industries. Goes to company events. Makes friends with the executives. Has already been asked to come back.

Pays well. Actually trains. Real benefits. None PC workforce. Good shit. But for about a year he had to struggle and wondered if he was going to be stuck in shit tier jobs and a worthless degree.
