After end of the war, when in Yugoslavia Communists got in charge, all people who cooperated with germans left the country and run into Austria, hoping that English army will recruit them, and maybe use them to fight against Russians.
What actually happened is that Churchill decided that English will return them to Yugoslavia and give them to Partisan communistic army.
Partisans killed majority of them when they were marching back, probably ~200 000 were killed in first few weeks after end of the war.

So after the war they killed most of them, secretly without any military courts, and hid bodies in mass graves. This topic was not allowed to talk about for 50 years. Whole communistic revolution part was hidden from history books. In schools we have been taught that only brave Partisans fought evil Germans and thats all that was going on during ww2.

He was stationed in Rabaul near the end of the war. He previously fought in Guadalcanal and told me how it was like hell being depleted of supplies and food. Also told me how the Americans were like us, fighting to protect their family when he saw a photo he picked up from a dead soldier. Didn't hold a grudge against them too, just wanted to go back home fast. No he didn't have a katana, he was just an ordinary private.

My great grandfather was in the Navy for 20 years, and spent 10 years on the USS Arizona. He developed a lifelong hatred of Japanese people, which he likened to a nest of fireants.
My grandfather fought in Korea, and considered the Chinese to be machines made of meat that were willing to throw themselves en masse at anything that might give them purpose.
My father was stationed in Panama for 4 years, and considered what Central Americans did to one another to be unhuman, and was in the country when Spadafora got his nuts garotted off, hamstrings cut, before drowning in his own blood pouring into his lungs.
I was intel, and got to see the new low that is the Middle East in its entirety, in Iraq and Qatar, where they hang gays and there is no due process.

My great grandfather became a rancher and swore that he'd never work for another human being, my grandfather did construction and lived in a truck with a .357 because he never wanted his taxes to go to stupid shit, my Dad became a teacher because he thought the country was filling up with idiots, and i'm a state park employee in one of the most conservative states that's about to use his VA home loan on a homestead to no longer be connected to this shit fest. Every generation grew and rebelled against their folks and their beliefs, joined the military, and all came to the conclusion that there is something wrong in the world that is cultural, religious, and ethnic, and that there are people that want to implement things that will destroy the west due to the fact that it is objectively superior to everything else because they have an inferiority complex that has led them loathe anything successful.

Each generation realized that their parents' views on politics and society were ultimately correct.

There's also the fact there's not nearly as many of them on account Japanese forces in the Pacific suffered an appalling casualty rate.

Guadalcanal is the only major island battle where the Japanese actually evacuated the garrison and there were a significant number of survivors. Usually, High Command just left them to rot once the first US Navy ships showed up and they were slaughtered to virtually the last man (a grand total of 17 Japanese enlisted men survived Tarawa).

I actually respect the Japs the most of any of the Axis Powers because they honored their oath to fight to the death.

How is this still a meme? Most of us here are millennials. Our parents were born sometime during the 60s-70s, and our grandparents were born in the 40s, 30s at the earliest. My oldest grandparent was 7 on V-J day.
