If someone ask me, who would ally in the case of troubles, I would choose Croats. I really do not like Austrians too much. Just a guess, but that's probably because you were never in contact with Slovenian language as a child, while the Serb guy might have watched a few slovenian cartoons, or had a Slovenian relative or something.
My grandma is from Zagorje/Koprivnica so we used to visit relatives there once a year when I was a child + every year going on vacations for 10-14 days to Croatian Sea and I can understand most of the language now. I was a quiet child though, so I never spoke much and I would have trouble speaking it now.
